Pixel Art / Re: (Beginner) Hot air balloon pixel art
« on: January 01, 2017, 08:06:47 pm »
Firstly, you should use imgur to host your pictures, you can then use Insert Image function (its the little mona lisa icon) to actually show the image.

Secondly, here is my edit:

I looked at some pictures of hot air ballons and noticed they arent just one big cloth, they have these lines that show separations. also the basket under the balloon is reaaaally small, if you would draw it realistically you wouldn't even see it in 16x16. But it's an important part of the balloon so you should still draw it.

I also made the clouds more cloudy, they arent just blocks of white in the sky they are shapeless blobs that kind of dissolve in the air.

I did a quick color edit. I made the shades less saturated, this makes stuff look realistic. I also changed the base colour of the buildings. It may be that this isn't what you are going for tho.

Here is my edit:

Plz dont pay too much attention to the bad shading on his head, its  just to show that its possible to do shading. You asked for clothes, so i tried to do that, its not very difficult and you could even keep AA, althought i chose not to because of readability.

Hands are indeed very difficult, they have too much detail so i think in 32x32 this is the best you can do, if you go to  bigger resolutions you would be able to make hands, but those would still only have 2-3 fingers. anyways Here's a ref sheet for hands anyways.

I think you are doing a good job at AA, just be aware that you dont overdo it because then you will get banding. just keep practicing

Maybe go to spriters-resource.com Look at some sprites you like from games you like and see how they do stuff. Using references is very important.

Just on the topic of Pixel Dailies, I think its fully random what they retweet, Some of my tweets have been retweeted others havent been, also if you just look at the tweets they retweet, its not like they always have a set selection of artists. I don't believe they ever said themselves they only retweet select artists. You have to remember these guys are busy as well, they probably just try to retweet as most ppl as possible but don't want to spam everyone's feed.

If you want to learn how to make good colours, I recommend watching this video  it explains a good basic way to get consistent good colours. if you want to get better than this, just  experiment with shifting certain values.

I think the bottom one lookst the best. So i made some quick edits, especially the colour needed some work. You should probably read up on color theory, there are lots of pixel art tutorials that talk about it. So instead of just changing the value (the amount of black and white) you should also play with Hue and Saturation, that is where you make the real difference, especially Hue. I don't know what colours you exactly want, but i just experimented a bit. I also changed her pose. When people put an arm on their hips, they dont balance their weight equally on both feet. So 1 foot will have a different direction.

BTW posting the progress isn't that useful for cc.

Pixel Art / Re: Learning Basic Pixel Art Animating
« on: December 11, 2016, 09:01:54 pm »
If the burger is really falling down, you should probably use less frame to make it look like its really slamming down. the faster he falls the heavier it looks.

For the bunny i would say, make his head turn while he walks and make his ears and whiskers bounce. This may be a bit difficult, but you have to start somewhere.  this is a very helpful tutorial for walking animations.

There are generally 2 ways of animation process, either first drawing the most important frames(key frames) and then adding the frames you need between them (inbetween). This makes for a carefully planned out animation, so this is usually used for a walking animation or a jumping animation. The other process is just drawing frame after frame, this usually looks more expressive, but you have to be careful where you end up. Making a jump animation frame after frame could mean your character ends up jumping way too far.

Just some ideas for some changes. I made his shirt and pants brighter, I do this a lot and its purely stylistic, but I think it looks a lot better. If his clothers were so dark i couldn't add shading, so i kind of had to. So I also added some shading to actually give him some depth. Then I also added Anti-alias, this is also style but it does look really good here because its such a large sprite. I also added an outline around his whole body, just to keep it consistent.  A lot of this is just my opinion on how i would do it so dont take it as how it should be done.
