Id suggest starting off with a base that isnt outlined at all, and just a mono-color human shaped blob. Hope that helps. At low resolutions the outline confuses the figure more so than it defines it.

I think some shading could help. I tried to add my own but I am not that happy with how it came out. Yeah, the position of that top fin, and the thruster are really wonky. The top fin should be mostly obscured. Im not sure where the thruster should be, or even if it should be visible, but as it was in your drawing its like sticking out to the side. I also adjusted the body shape just a little bit.

Anyway, hope that helps.

Im drawing landing gear now. Im partial to the upper right most, and lower left most. My biggest problem with the upper right most, is that it looks too flimsy to support the craft. My biggest problem with the lower left most, is that its hard to understand

I edited your last revision a bit. Your drawing is really... weird? Not in a good way, but still very interesting. I am curious as to how you made it, and your thought process.

Your drawing is strangely square. I rounded out the edges. One thing I found interesting about your drawing was how the shading apparently extended beyond the edge of the seed itself. It looks cool. It seems like you understand shading really well, but the very edge of your drawing could use some better/different anti-aliasing I think, which I guess is a different technique than shading. Then I redrew the stem, and put a little brown spec where the stem meets the seed. I think I improved the stem (maybe you agree) largely by softening the color gradient, and then removing darker colors from the top edges of the leafs.

Anyway, cool stuff, keep it up!

dpixel, lachrymose, r1k,

Thanks guys! Yeah you guys were able to do a lot with just more shading. Ill keep your examples for reference in the future.

Mafamoo,

Kek, ikr?

Decroded,

Hey guys,

I got kind of a weird offer.

Basically, two years ago I made some paint software that largely resembles MSPaint, but it runs inside your web browser. Its available to use at ctpaint.us, with no downloading or installing necessary. Im returning to the project with the intention of making a new business around in browser image editing and social media.

Ill pay about $45 to $90 (depending on your pixel art experience, please provide prior work), for you to draw whatever you would like in my software. Doesnt have to be complicated, but you do have to finish it. Here are three conditions:

0; You have to talk to me about software afterwards, so I can get a better idea of what you like and dislike about pixel drawing software. Not just my software but software generally. It doesnt have to be a long one, maybe 3 or 4 thorough email back and forths, or a 15 minute phone call.

1; I get to use whatever you draw. Im doing a kickstarter, so I will use your drawing to demonstrate what is possible in CtPaint. Ill of course, give you credit in what ever promotional video your image shows up in.

2; Since Ill likely throw it into a promotional video, the pixel art has to be general audience appropriate, no other content conditions however.

Whats available at ctpaint.us, I made with no intention of making it into a product, so its got some kinks and quirks. There isnt much available in terms of documentation or helper menus, so I would be happy to explain to you how its features work.

You can email me at chadtech0@gmail.com

Best,

Pixel Art / Moonlander space ship in video game

Ive got this simple spaceship game online right now:
http://www.chadtech.us/elm-prac-2

And its using a sprite of a spaceship I drew a few years ago. Looking back at it, Im not that happy with it. Its shape is kind of awkward, and while its got a lot of details none of them look very coherent. I tried improving it.

I feel like most recent iteration iteration looks... blobby?

Yeah they are portraits of people. I didnt work off reference images. But here is what I look like, and my friend.

I guess what I am wondering isnt 'how much does this look like me and my friend?', but rather 'how do you make low resolution portraits look like anyone?'. It seems to me that there there just isnt enough room.
