Pixel Art / Character Design

So, I'm trying to design a simplistic roboty-looking guy for a game.

He's supposed to be kind of naive and fearful, this whole "life" thing being rather new to him. He is designed to mesh with society though, being an artificial intelligence, so I'm trying for a more human leaning on his design than not.
Thoughts?

Start with how many frames you want the animation to be. 2 frame run cycles tend to be kind of stiff, while more complex ones are more smooth.
Work from there.
A helpful diagram for walk cycles:

one thing I'm noticing is a bit of weird "flicker" on the left leg of the bobbing girl. Our left, not hers.
Right where the sock starts.

(also, saitama's missing his cape man! Can't forget the cape dude!)

I recommend working from a reference on this.
To get more specific, everything is too blocky. The grip in particular looks like it would hurt to hold as it is, normally the edges would have been sanded off slightly to round it out or, in the case of more modernized crossbows, are replaced with a pistol or rifle grip.

Here's a picture of an old wooden crossbow to work from:

from my friend on skype:

"If you combine this with a vertex shader that quantizes bone position to limit the framerate of character animation, you could do some pretty sick things with IK"

I don't know jack all about this "Third Dimension" stuff but here you go

Hey sup, I'm Mysterymeat, also known by some as Riotmode.
I've been doing pixels for about four years now, and seriously trying to get GOOD at them for about a year and a half.

I'm looking forward to interacting with the community, as I can already see from http://pixelation.org/index.php?topic=18842.0 this is going to be quite an interesting ride.

I draw with a mouse and use Aseprite for my pixelwork.

My hobbies are making really dumb internet jokes and having intense heated arguments over children's cartoon shows.
