Graphics Gale seems to allow making new images in 15bpp, but I'm not sure if it's the same as RGB555.

Also, does anyone know how Visualboy Advance accomplishes its "Gameboy Mode" like the example compared to the video Ptong made in the other thread?  Is it simply a brightness increase?

Same here.  The bold diagonal is one of my favorite effects of the piece.

Dithering is better as an after thought after all of the volumes and main details are in place, and tends to work much better with contrasting shades to create noticable in-between shades.

Budew I tried to edit, I really don't want to edit the face more than this, have tried multiple ways but out of all of them this is the best imo, budew's eyes are naturally curved, so it wouldn't look much like budew without it, hopefully this new one is somewhat more readable than before.
Looking at Budew's official art, his mouth is thinner than his eyes, but his eyes in your sprite are already one pixel wide.  The solution to this is to make the mouth a color to give off a more thinner appearance to it.

Anti-aliasing can be used to achieve certain angles and shapes in lines, such as what I did for his left eye here.

But if it's generally agreed that selout means "trying to copy what Capcom does on some edges of sprites, even when not appropriate", then that is a problem and usage of the term should be discouraged
The problem is, not everybody knows better, especially those that may freshly view the tutorial that treats it like the Capcom way of doing it.

btw here's another great thread about selout http://www.wayofthepixel.net/pixelation/index.php?topic=2511.0
Wow.  Excellent thread.  Definitely adding to my favorites for further reference.

I like how it is discovered that selout is actually AA on certain backgrounds.  Instead of calling it selout when it's done poorly, should we just call it bad-AA then?

I can't claim to be an expert, but I think the original is better than the edit.

You desaturated way too much.  Now he looks ghastly.  It's also better that he uses reds for better effect, especially for reducing colors.

You also took away a bunch of key facial features, namely wrinkles and saggy cheeks in favor of another young looking character.

Your art is amazing, and this game looks beautiful.

My suggestion about the statues is that if they're going to be used as lives indicators, maybe have them be displayed only when you:

- Start the game or a level to show how many lives you currently have.
- Every time you die, which one breaks.
- If you collect an extra life, which then one reforms.

That way they'll still exist as a noticeable part of the game, but only during times where the information is relevant.

Face needs to be longer for that to work.  Now a large chunk of his right face was sawed off and almost has no chin.  It's not bad, just the size of the face needs to be adjusted for it to look right.

I think the character being such a silhouette-esque design makes him stand out, because he looks like a moving shadow in a detailed environment.
