Pixel Art / Re: Too bright colors?
« on: December 08, 2016, 10:54:06 pm »
I always liked you work, it's an inspiration to tell the truth. I think the very bright colors are part of your style, so embrace them.

Having said that, I agree the main grass color is a bit too yellowish and saturated.

More in line in my opinion.

I would add an outline if it's for a game, but that just me. I would make the arms go all the way back, like somebody power-walking that would reinforce a good walk cycle otherwise.

The jaw is maybe a little too square. But it look fine in itself, it's clean, shading seems ok to me. If I were you I would not try to improve it, except if you add it in the context of something bigger.

Maybe you should apply a known dithering pattern, like try out one from the bottom of this thread and work from there. The transition between sky and space is the weakest for now.

At this stage, I wouldn't ask myself too many questions and produce a lot more. Consider you are gonna improve a lot if you keep at it, and you will want to redo everything later anyway. So go for it, work work work and come back maybe with your character in an environment, two monsters, it will be easier to give you advice.

You can use this : adobe tool to make a color ramp with the color of your choosing.

If we consider the question you are asking, you probably need to learn about the tools you want to use, and how to handle hue, saturation ... You can read this content for example.

If it still too complicated, you should probably start with simple real drawing tutorial and videos. Step by step ones. Or reproduce by yourself simple existing art.

The image lacks a bit of contrast, the colors are a bit bland especially with a subject where you have very saturated and "nice" colors at the beginning in the original picture. Unless you want to represent the same image at dawn.

My edit, which is not very good as I struggle with colors too, show you at least the difference of contrast you can get

I think this tutorial as some good ideas to keep in mind :

This is what I meant (end of tutorial, but the whole is interesting) :

In my edit I had added a pixel to separate head and torso, but in that case it didn't need to go inside the sprite, to have a better separation between the two.
