hehe thanks, though this isn't very good as it's rushed and i'm outta practise. Note how dark parts of the face are although there's no sense to it. In fact, given the backwards lightsource, the face should be darker in exactly the middle, almost reverse-pillow shaded heh, but I lacked the balls to re-paint the whole face after I made the background.

Building off of the pep edit, there's absolutely no rule that says dice must be gray and boring, so here's a tint. Also you don't need more than 10 colours for this, and I was personally against the trig highlight pep used so I gave it an edge highlight.

a rush job, but I'm surprized nobody tried this before me. 16 colours

General Discussion / Pixelation Complaints
« on: July 29, 2005, 08:21:40 am »
Among several others. I took issue with a lot of stuff going on at Pixelation. I always felt it was a terrific forum, particularly in that it was well-known enough to bring occasional visits from publishers and developers. Because of that it's also the reason I got my first paid pixel gig. But the moderating was downright juvenile at times, and usually overbearing. I guess I always kind of hoped for a forum with the renown of Pixelation, and the atmosphere of Pixeldev.

I am quite curious on what stuff you took issue with on Pixelation and I'd like you (and anyone else who feels the same way) to discuss these issues openly so we can hope for a better pixelation when it comes back online. I didn't want to potentially derail and also negatively charge the welcome thread, but it seems we have baggage that I do feel should be resolved. I personally never saw pixelation moderation go juvenile, although I can see the overbearing aspect, I guess. Morganne, you sals or whoever else felt pixelation had problems, be it with the mods or the attitude of the boards or anything else, this is be the place to constructively discuss them.

I note that I am not currently a pixelation moderator, just another pixelation user, so this isn't a 'mod trap' hehe or anything of the kind. As long as it's a civil discussion, anything goes. I can only hope we can resolve the issues that arise. Pixelation shouldn't just be a 'popular board' as you say, to score pay gigs, that's not it's function. Pixelation should be a place old-standing members like sals should feel welcome to, and maybe even at home in.

"making shadows blue"

this falls under colour theory. It shouldn't be a piece of independent knowledge, it should fall within a larger methodological framework concerning colour usage. You don't just pick a hue direction and go thataway to get an interesting result ( well, you can do that, but it's a bit more complicated if you want to master it) it has to be in a general discussion about complementary colours, seye afterimages, negative space, saturation and warmth impressionism etc etc etc

we have a lot of work in the wiki ahead of us.

Leif, I trust you're interested in the theoretical side as well, right? The more the merrier.

Do you guys think bringing in BUFFERING in the AA entry is worthwhile? I think I'm one of three people that use the term so I wouldn't like to force it, but it's significantly different from more advanced forms of AA. AA is a holistic effect, whereas buffering is used on a case-by-case basis, where a more smooth gradient between two colours is needed. The benefit with buffering is selective usage: you don't suffer from the well-mentioned overal AA blur.

Sals: juvenile? I've been on many fora online and I know what juvenile is ("I am banning you because I don't like you.") so I can tell you I never saw pixelation moderation go down to juvenile, but if you felt so, then obviously we need to keep an eye out for mod abuse more than I thought.

Wasn't Morganne the one that was reportedly not pleased with the Pixelation Moderators, and migrated to Pixelrate?
