« on: July 07, 2008, 10:07:03 pm »
Yeah graphics for a little tabletennis game.

Was actually finished several weeks ago, dont know why it didnt get posted here to now.
Oh well, animations as always not great but they do the job.
Had more fun with the background anyway.

Pixel Art / Re: I am still working on te Wings Shmup

I looked at this topic two days ago and was thinking "hm..."
Now i think the whole concept could work, i esp. like the bg for the waterlevel, even iam not much into abstract stuff.
Im not really sure if the pixelart mix well with the handrawn(?) backgrounds though.
Also the sprites could be drawn with a little more concept. I mean the randomly style work for the backgrounds quit good
but the sprites need more work in there forms.

Pixel Art / Re: Anatomy help... again (and tiles)

If you use 16x16 tilesize they are not very efficient for now, the grid is also higly visible.
Also the dithering on the stones is a little cheap. You should also avoid working on a white background, if thats the case.
I made a little example for the tiles.

As you can see i used the dirt tiles as the base with the grass is growing on it.
For a proper dirt/grass transition you basically need at least 12 tiles.
4 corners for the "outside"
4 corners for the "inside"
4 edges
Plus one grass and dirt tile of course.
There can be more for each type(corners, edges) to eliminate repetivness.

The same technic can be also used on any other kind of transitions, like water or sand.

I like it. But yeah, as already mentioned by adam, the hud doesnt fit very well.
Maybe a little less style and more simple.
I also dont like the tiles very much, they lack volume. And I am also not much fan of same approach in the later megaman games.

Its not perfect, but you get the idea.

Its interesting to see the graphical progress on the megaman games.
I say super mario bros. 2, color selection and the visual consistens (wich is far more important on such limited systems like the nes)
are very good.

Alles gute zum Geburtstag!

Finished!

@ceddo
I personally like the fact of the different styles incorporated in this. It also wouldn`t be a good idea
to force people saying how they have to draw there stuff.
We also have a fixed palette this time, so I think so there is enough consistence present.
