Pixel Art / Salvaging art from a screenshot
« on: February 20, 2018, 01:32:17 pm »
I wasn't going to post this until it was finished, but that wasn't how the world worked I guess. I was luckily taking screenshots to send in a chat, but unfortunately I never saved my actual file. And Photoshop decided that it would be a good time to crash.

Original size was 100px x 120px

Any ideas how to save this? I'd like to hold off critique until it's finished (at least in my eyes), I just want to know if it can easily be done or if it would be easier to start over from scratch.

2D & 3D / Gyrfalcon wip (critique wanted)
« on: June 07, 2017, 05:31:12 pm »
I really want to start doing hella photo-realistic art, and I want this guy to be my test subject. I've been working on him for quite sometime now off and on other projects.

Any feedback you can give me would be great!

So I've been wanting to put some of my work on sites to sell as shirts, stickers, cases, etc, but I don't know where to begin. I want to make a little bit of money, and since commissions haven't been working out like I thought they would (I maybe have about $50 worth of cms, which isn't bad, but I haven't gotten a new one in a month now so I want to look for more alternatives) (in addition if someone could give me advise for advertising commissions that would be great, but not the point of this thread so shoot me a pm)

I've kinda looked around on Redbubble and Society6. Etsy too, but it looks like with Etsy I'd have to make the product myself, and I don't trust myself to make a good quality physical product like a shirt. I'd rather put my art into the site and the company turns it into a shirt to ensure the best quality.

My main problem deciding is... who owns the art once its uploaded? Honestly, the user license agreements are so confusing to someone new to this sort of stuff, and I'm leery about uploading my work on there. Especially if my work becomes their property the moment I do so. I haven't heard anything bad about Society6 yet, but Redbubble has some people saying that the site took their work and deleted their account.

Another thing I have an issue with is... is it legal to sell fanart on those sites? People love fanart, and being able to sell some of mine on there would greatly boost my sales, I think.

Does anyone sell/has sold through these sites and can clear up these questions?

Pixel Art / Back on here after a rather long haitus
« on: August 05, 2015, 12:08:11 am »
I had no time for much. ;-; But now I'm back for a bit, this place seriously helped a ton.

If you don't know me, I'm Sarah. Or you can call me Lark, if you like. Honestly whatever works. Well, this isn't the introduction forum so I'm gonna be brief here. I've been doing art for about six years (I'm 16, going into my junior year!) and also play flute and have dabbled a bit in trumpet.

Before I go on about my goals and such, let me post my work. ^^

All of these are completed commission work, so I'm not really looking for critique on individual ones, I'm looking for suggestions on how to move forward.
Last time I frequented here I just posted and used commissions as my learning, but I've decided that doing that is not the way to go. I would like someone or a few people to pitch me suggestions and exercises for my work.
I recently got into Flight Rising and I've been taking more commissions through that (with in-game currency) rather than DA points (too young for Paypal), and it's sparked a ton of interest so that's why I'm returning here.

I don't really want to cover anatomy per say, I want to cover pixeling technique. At least, I don't want to learn anatomy through pixel art. I would like to work on texturing, light sources, environments/blending subject and background, and pixel backgrounds.

Some non-pixel work to show you guys as well. (hidden for size)

(oldest to newest, so hopefully you can see a bit of improvement there.)
(holy fish sticks those are huge how do you resize them without going into an image editor I'm dumb ok)

anyway, as you can probably see I really like animals which is something I really hate about my work. I want to draw more people but human anatomy annoys me to no end. So any help with that or tips based on what you see up there would be amazing. Specifically faces, designs, etc. Also clothing. I hate drawing clothing, and designing it, and everything else to do with it.

Pixel Art Feature Chest / GR#209 - Larks Sprites - Form, Shading
« on: July 19, 2014, 06:23:45 pm »
and sort of fails idk.

Anyway, I've been doing some more form tests, and kind of developed another style of shading my pixels. They look more pastel-y than before. I'm not sure if I like them too much now, but I'm sort of trying to refine it a bit and make them look more 3d.

Hey its umbreon again.

Just shading tests and such.

Also, I tried out a bit of dittering. I do like this one.

I also need to do humans. But I get lazy and go back to animals.
Humans will come soon.
I promise.

Something I did a bit ago, but wanted to post here for a critique request.

I used several video references for it.

So yeah, input?

General Discussion / Stolen Art
« on: July 07, 2014, 09:16:19 pm »
I'm stuck in a pickle right now, and was wondering if one of you could help me out. I honestly didn't know where to put this, or even if I'm allowed to ask about this but it seems right since this is an art site.

I have found out that some of my very old art has been uploaded to Fanpop without my permission or giving credit to me. Even though the piece is old (and very bad) I still want to try to get it removed because its doing me no good on Fanpop without my credit.

Screenshot from google images if you search "wolves" and scroll down.

I know that there is probably nothing I can do about this and I'm probably overreacting a bit but I really don't like my work out on the internet without some form of credit.

Pixel Art / Young pixel artist looking for critique!
« on: June 30, 2014, 04:53:39 pm »
Hello all! I'm a young pixel artist seeking critique and advice on my work. I have been pixeling for about a year, and would like to know if any of you have opinions on how I should proceed in progressing.

Pixels are from oldest to newest.

(my icon and favorite)

Thank you so much for looking! I look forward to hearing from you!
