Its almost impossible to read. But it does look way better.

Agreed. I like what you did with the cracks too.

Maybe curve the writing across the wall to make it follow the perspective of the wall a little? The bottom (and top) of the wall follow curves - I think the writing would look better if it had a little perspective to it as well.

I'm going to risk commenting on this, even though last time feedback was sought for this project I feel like very little of the feedback actually made it back into the art.

So, when I look at this, I am confused. Visually, I can't work out what is higher and what is lower. Something that can help with this is shadows - in fact I don't know how you are going to do this without shadows. My point is - at the moment it's a mix of texture but even looking at it carefully, its hard to decode. You need to pick a light source direction and apply it consistently.

I think this was the most confusing part of the image for me:

I've added a couple of shadows based on what I can only guess is your desired light source direction:

I think most people (esp. myself) would like to see a mockup of an actual scene using the tiles. If you throw something together its easier to look at how it all works, especially with how it tiles etc.

It looks really good - very impressive stuff. I'd just suggest you take another look at Tim's edit, and contrast with this latest version that you did - Tim's edit is far superior. In fact, his edit looks gorgeous - I'd probably buy that game :) As was said above, the floors look too dark and washed out.

I didn't realize that was supposed to be water. I think, the pattern matches the rock floor too closely. It should be more graduated. Also, with the water, how about if you put some sort of shoreline, like where the water hits the rocks it could be whiter. I know its underground and there probably aren't much waves, but if you don't do something then people may not know its water.

Hey man, good start. I'm no expert like some of the guys on this board either, but maybe I can give you my opinion. Firstly, the ground is too square and draws the attention immediately. The other thing is that there, I think, needs to be much more contrast. My eye struggles to separate tree from grass. The tree colors seem quite saturated, I did a quick test in MSPaint and by darkening the leaf color and reducing the saturation it was starting to look a bit better.

You may have already seen this, but if you haven't I'd suggest you take a look at this page:

Good luck!

I liked the one from 2011 better. The left arm with the fireball on the 2014 version looks strange to me.

There's no pixel art in these images in my opinion (no pixel level detail). You would be better posting these to the low spec forum.

The actual character and level looked like pixel art to my untrained eye - the portrait to the top left definitely isn't, I agree with you there. But it looks like the character was drawn at a pixel level?

Thanks for the tip about the corners, I'll try redo them and post the results today.

About the mountains, I agree they came out looking more like floors. I forgot to mention scale here, the game is intended to be played from the top down orthogonal perspective, and I had intended the player to be 1x1 tile, and so I wanted each tile to be approximately 1 meter x 1 meter, so I think I can't put entire mountains on a single tile.  I did some searching and the closest reference I could come up with was this:

From http://lunar.lostgarden.com/

I'll play around with trying to redo the mountain with this reference in mind and repost.
