I might have gone horribly wrong or overboard with it, but there is too much light for that small amount of shading:

There are no shadings whatsoever, thus it looks flat.
Try looking into it and apply shadings, it will make that several folds better! :D

An update:

Tried going more into depth with these, hopefully looks better... I'm kinda lost here.

EDIT:
Tried adding the helmet:

EDIT 2:
I was told that the armor looks like a suit because it is too "tight" and not bulky enough.
So here's my last attempt:

EDIT 3:
Made the gold cross crossier and goldener:

EDIT 4:
Tried adding a tint of red to the grey area so it won't be plain grey:

So, bumping this thread because I have done some coding and now I am back to pixeling stuff.
Hmm so basically I want to start working on the classes or at least that's what I started to do today

So:
Armor, metal, two things I know nothing about. So basically any crit is valuable to me..
The leggings are probably really off, the chestplate looks weird too. The thing is I know metal shadings have really sharp transitions between colors because of the reflections and stuff, but because it is a small sprite I don't know how to execute it well...

It's funny you post that, because the first picture has the edge facing away from his body and the second one is double bladed, so you actually proved my point  ;)

Well, the sharp side faces outward in my sprite, isn't it? D:
Or my eyes are failing me ^^"

He is holding the sword backwards, with the edge facing the wrong direction :)

Kind of big update

I went on using the full 64x64 canvas:

It's still a WIP but criticism is as usual always welcome!
