General Discussion / Re: Official Off-Topic Thread 2014

Well, when you started posting around here, basically! I didn't know you before that :P
It's not like I keep up with the latest and greatest, up and coming artists in the game since I'm not a pixelart label producer
The artists I know usually are either already famous in their circles or are reblogged on Tumblr/Twitter by artists I followed.
Some day I'll take time to look for all the hidden talent that lurks in the vastness of the Internet

Portfolios / Re: 8-bit music for your games! [C&C]

Some tasty classic 8bit rock you got there :) Followed! :y:
I think this subforum is specifically for pixelart porfolios, but the rules seem to be lax (non-pixel art is forgiven, and some people even have pages with just traditional/standard art!) Just cross your fingers ::)

Any commission will never be as good as these sublime, yet sadly copyrighted fillers

yaomon17, nice! Cool glowing effect ;D

Dyluckk, the pigtails are 400% more powerful than in the concept

PixelPiledriver, I see a witch offering a green apple to some kid. It took me time to see that it's not vertically symmetric :o

Ellian, that's just rich ::)

PsylentKinght, I finally get to see some more of that clown! First time I saw him was a while ago  since you started working on other parts of your game and such ::)

Let's see if I can sit down to sketch for an hour a day, since my semester is almost over :P...

Good luck Ellian! :) I know you can do it, since you haven't stopped producing stuff ever since I took notice of you (and that's very important as a freelance )

Pixel Art / Re: New to MAKING Pixel art
« on: December 04, 2014, 09:38:47 pm »
I've only seen the first 3 episodes of the first SAO! (Nobody asked but I said it anyway!)

  • Not enough difference in the shades (the hair lines, for example).
  • Too much detail in such a small picture! It's hard for an onlooker to identify the clusters and what they're supposed to be (you got this for trying to faithfully mimic the complex clothes design) It's not enough to have the pixels there, you must make sure the average viewer will be able to read it correctly.
  • The face is grumpy. Is the character supposed to be grumpy? The eyebrows are too close to the eyes and it looks like a frown.
  • I find it peculiar that, being an anime fan, you didn't use anime eyes and instead went for bead eyes. Not right or wrong, just funny to me :P

You've met a terrible fate, haven't you?

Manupix is basically right, although I guess you're not going to downsize this into 100x100 any time soon

Instead I recommend that you use some sort of tiling (so, that will forcibly imply a regular perspective) and not do freehand drawing as you've done here.

I'm very curious as to why there is a man with no skin on the ground, so I'll be the first to address the elephant in the dressing room.

Pixel Art Feature Chest / Re: Reclining nude [wip]

The body seems awfully detailed, you should only apply basic detail before deciding on all of the shapes / silhouette of the thing you're drawing. Nice detail, in any case :-X

Pixel Art / Re: [C+C] sprites for a game.

If the game is going to be text-heavy (being Homestuck and all) then you do right by sticking with RPG Maker 200x

But if there is going to be actual platforming, I recommend switching to another simple game-making tool, like Construct 2.
(and then you'd have to create something for the text boxes, but it'd be minor work)
I say this because even heavily modified RPG Maker XP games felt wonky when implementing gameplay from other genres :P

In any case, good luck :)

Gorgeous work, Decroded :)

I think the detail in background rocks is fine-- the colors are desaturated enough to (very) clearly set a difference between the two planes.

My only nitpick right now is the 'indirect light' color, that appears underneath the rocks on the main plane.
As of now, it's not very clear what or where is the cause of those reflections :-\
