I feel like I need a kick in the ass, I drop pieces whenever I can properly visualize them in my head or my silly palette experiments seems to mesh. At this point it seems pretty masturbatory and I want to kick that bad habit. Anyone have any tips on helping me rekindle my love for the more automatic, laborious side of pixel art? :(

About 2 hrs each, I'm slow.
I'm all about the journey, but that seems kind of bad. D: What program are you using? I know that pixelling lowres faces with many colors can be quite the timesink in trying to convey everything you want to convey (especially if you're attempting a likeness), but usually it's best to focus on the whole holistic effect of the piece before your brain turns to mush and you need fresh eyes, in my opinion.

I'm going to do some things based on those generators, give me a moment. :)

edit:

The deformed race that resembles the angels of earth mythology. They change genders as they age. They are notoriously laid-back. Their government is a meritocracy. They are regarded virtually as gods by some races. Another race uplifted them to sentience. They come from a high-gravity, watery, resource-rich world that has many moons.

Might make a topic for and finish this.

I know the rightmost cloud is supposed to be overlapping but it looks like it's wedging unnaturally into the other cloud form. That's the only thing throwing me off, looks good otherwise.

I think the point here was that with generative systems we will eventually reach a point where we can make enviroments that look photo realistic. I do think that's the only way we're gonna get there....SPORE was a start.
I wonder how long it'll take for them to return en-masse to styles with more personality.

Why must I become such a stereotypically grumpy old man at such a young age? :'(

I figured I had at least a couple years of Diddy Kong in me, but I guess not...

Sorry for not being clear, I don't mean to pixel in 3d space, I mean to use screen captures of a 3d model that you would make as basis for your sprites. This ensures consistency of volume and gives you a strong base to work off of when pixeling. It would likely involve learning some new skills but it's worth it if you decide to make a project with these sprites. I would likely create a low poly model and variations for the major keyframes, and use scaled down screen captures of these for the bases of your sprites. Of course you would go on to add details and animation inbetweens on your own in whichever pixel program.

As far as your last question goes, voxels as they are right now probably aren't to be taken seriously, despite some cool experiments such as Voxelstein 3d.
