I wish I knew a good perspective tutorial to link you to. This is basic art stuff.
You are trying to show every bit of his arms, and it makes it look really flat like his arms are just folded in front of him. In a martial stance like I assume you are going for, the fists would be pointed much more forward, so you wouldn't see much forearm and the fist would appear larger due to it being closer to the viewer.

It really seems like you are trying to skip the basics here, all the detail you are putting in the chest is premature when you haven't even figured out the arms and legs yet. If it looks strange without the details, its going to look strange with them. Shading isn't going to help the form look better.

PA meaning pixel art. I don't know about you, but for me - simplicity is more difficult than highly detailed stuff. I'm disposed to adding lots of detail.

DO NO go off on a tangent and try to improve your skills before continuing your project, though. Just do the best you can this time around. Then do better next time. Here's an article I recommend for you.
Yeah I knew what you meant by PA. You are right about simplicity being more difficult. I'm pretty happy with what I have been doing and I am going to stick with that style, mostly because I am getting a good workflow and I am confident about it.

That's a really good article and it hits home in a lot of ways for me. I have been fighting the urge to rewrite all the code for a while. I am already re-doing all the art, but I think that is for the better. Thanks for the link.

Looks fine to me. Unless you want to make some really damn special bullet I think you can call this done and move on to something more interesting.

I think it is just the way the arms are relative to his torso. The trunk seems very wide and his shoulders are at a strange angle. It makes it look kind of like his shoulders are scrunched up like he is cold, instead of the fighting pose you are going for.

I would really recommend just working with a reference and doing a quick sketch of the anatomy, and figuring out exactly where all the muscles are before you start detailing muscle groups and cloth. The fabric and lighting look good but you need to get the basic form down first.

The thing that immediately caught my eye is the arms. The perspective is all off, there is a lot to be said about perspective.
Here is a 30 second edit just to show what I'm talking about

The way you have it now, his arms look more like the end in tentacles than fists.
The arms also start a little too high on his body.

The detail on the hood looks good but all the anatomy is a bit off. You are approaching this piece all wrong, you should start with getting the whole structure right for the body and don't spend any time on the detail until it looks good without it. The sooner you get the anatomy fixed the better because if you do all this detail work its going to hurt when you have to scrap it to change the body shape.

It may be a little beyond your current PA skills, but I still think the char illustration style ought to be simpler, more cell-shadey. Like LTTP. This'll help recognition.
Not fully sure what you mean by that but you are probably right about both things.

Made the new minotaur disc. There are definitely some issues but I like it.

I kinda screwed up the disc, I'm going to work on those after work.

Ah I see what you are doing with the color now.

A few crits.

The guy on the rail looks a lot smaller than the rest, it might be better when animated but right now it looks like he is in the background. Also those sparks are barely visible with that palette.

Is the guy in the front flipping off the blue guy? I cant really tell what gesture that is, or if that's supposed to be a weapon. If he is flipping him off then the arm looks good, I might have him standing on one foot or something to show that its just a taunt animation.

Lastly, the O for the orange team doesn't really read as the letter O when its on its own like that. At first I thought the O was just a disc floating over that platform. I think an R for red would be a lot more recognizable.

Watch out for contrast especially on the skeleton.
Using the disc class color as an accent around the rim is still quite recognizable compared to turning the entire thing red.
Also kind of makes the characters look like stickers put on top of a playing piece.
I googled "Board game tokens with stickers" and found this as an example of what I mean.
Magic cards, among others, seem to have a similar composition.
Yeah I will totally be doing this, that looks great. I have actually had the idea of making them look like stickers on wooden discs for quite a while. Even my original hi-res concept pieces had white borders around the art to make it look that way. I like the idea for aesthetic purposes but also so I could make stuff like this for some cool swag. (that one is obviously a prototype).

You could paste the heads of the characters on the disc, or to take it a step further, make the heads the discs themselves.

Example:

I like that idea, I don't think it would quite fit with the theme of this game, but it does look good. I like the guy on the bottom.

Doing some work using surt's stuff as a base, I think I like this style a lot.

Wow the tiles look a lot better laid out like that.
The colors are better but they still look a little dull.

This may be against the spirit of what you are trying to do here, but have you tried doing this?

In my opinion it immediately makes the left side beautiful, the right side not as much but its not as "foggy" looking as before.
