General Discussion / Re: NEW CLUSTER STUDY THREAD!

I made Viewtiful Joe from scratch using DawnBringer's color palette, in IsoPix on my android tablet. I was trying to test myself with clusters and using a palette I couldn't change. ( I'll need to get used to touch screen. )

There are no single pixels in the image.

@Ai
Heh, I mess with a lot of thing. Blender and Python being on the far end, so It's not that I know a lot, it's more like I use google and API references.  :) I'm more of a noob when it comes to 3D.

That looks pretty cool! I used to use blender quite a bit, I taught myself mostly everything (I used to have dial-up, for like 30 mins a day) I never got good at animation, but I did make a script on BlenderArtists for faster navigation which is apparently built-in for 3D Max Studio or something. It's was mostly done, since it didn't get much attention. I couldn't figure out how to turn it into an extension, so it's just a script. It mainly sets the viewport to bounding box mode when using the middle mouse button, of scaling an object or moving it.

Made it cause laptops suck with blender.  :P

The animation You've made so far looks pretty good. However, it's looking closer to the smaller plumes of smoke in the reference animation. I find that an explosion begins bright, and makes it's way to black. White > Yellow > Orange > Red > Black. The hotter the area, the brighter it is. So as the flames die away, it'll get darker until it's made of smoke and fades away. Other than that, I recommend a bright flash near the start, and make the overall animation closer to a red-orange color, using yellow as anti-aliasing for white in the flash.

Hope this helps!  :D

I attempted to find all of the single pixels in Vagrant's image, and highlighted them in blue. I am pretty sure I found all of them, but I only spent around 5mins looking for them. I did this purely for the practice of spotting pixels that are out of place, and I figured that I'd post it (with permission) for other to learn from.

I can see how looking for them will let you navigate your work faster, but I am not sure how the final product will turn out quality wise, as it is hard to attempt without a concrete visual example of what we are trying to do by achieving this. Your post on banding and clusters really helped me advance my work, so I look forward to learning more from this. Thanks.

Colors aren't that big of a deal, I mean, it's not like you could copyright this or that shade of yellow or blue. But it's just as easy to make your own palette then search for one.

But it's like taking mario, and making up a plumber who looks like, but is not the same style and claiming that as your own. But now with the side-by-side comparison, I don't think it's even close to the same. Used as a reference sure, but drastically different.

(does anybody else see the minesweeper in the bottom corner?  :D)

It's totally taken from here. They look like they weren't edited, but more like they used the emoticons as a reference. But, even I wouldn't forgive this.  >:( To me, the emoticons here are the best I've seen. They're easy to read, with nice sharp features, and they're square. But yeah, They totally copied.  :n:

I've used Linux Multimedia Studio, It's free and runs on linux, windows and mac. It has lots of preset instruments, and allows you to tweak them to sound different. You just have to read the help file a couple of times to find where the presets are, and how to place notes. It handles midi input from electric keyboards.

It also has sine and square waves, which I think is used for games on the NES / GB.

Edit:

lol, didn't notice you'd already tried it!

You could try soundclub, it's also free. I used this before LMMS, and it's really simple to use. It says it's for windows 95/NT, but I've used it on XP too. You can use the mouse to plot down notes, along with midi input from a electronic keyboard too.

It's pretty old, so it was hard to find in google again, but if I wasn't using LMMS, I'd still be using this.
