In regards to the tactics sprites, I was attempting to go for a highly detailed psudo-realistic style, however it seems I over-did it and they ended up looking 'messy' and unclear ^^U. Currently I'm finishing up the portrait and palette swaps of the whip-girl so that'll be posted soon. You're right about the neck... we'll see if I corrected it properly once I repost later.

Keops, you did a really nice job on the portrait, good color selection, shading, etc. The fighter sprite has very nice folds on his pants, and also a good color selection... though I noticed a few problems elsewhere:

-his > leg appears thinner than his < leg (the foot is fine I think)
-the head appears rather square (the jaw in the portrait appears more angular)
-his < hand also appears blurry, perhaps removing the brightest tone and/or place a shadow on the backside (< side) of the hand should correct it
-the < glass should be slightly darker since his face is turned a bit
-you *might* consider shading the coat the same way you shaded the pants (an distinct division between light and shadow) unless of course you wanted his torso to have a flat look, which I suppose is fine

KOS '06 art:


Currently I'm pretty happy with the portrait, however I'm not exactly fond of my cell shaded gold scrunchie-like-thing. Tried making  it bright and contrasted like the armguard, on my Dhaos fighter sprite. It stand out too much and just not look right; so I just added a small highlight to keep with the simlistic theme. I also just noticed I forgot to AA one of the hairs in the background, oh well maybe later...

Eventually I'll add some alt color swaps perhaps.

Still forgot to remove the highlight on his bicept lol.

Once I tweak these sprites a bit more, they should be ready to be submitted ^^. Anyways, let me know what you think, any comments, crits, or suggestions are welcome.

*saves pics*, fantastic work Ken, as always. I'm really digging the colors on this piece. Those seedlings are uber cute as well ^^. Like the others already said, the gaia fighter sprite's face  seems a bit masculine, while the portrait is quite feminine.

DE: that's a really great sprite/portrait combo; good pose, excellent colors, nice design. I didn't notice that was mario star bage (till istvan pointed it out), that's so awesome ^^.

Few questions:
-Are those skin midtones scars?
-Whats that 1337 speak say? Too tiny for me to read =(...if it even is 1337 speak *is blind*
-are his lower legs a bit long or is that intentional?

This may be off topic, but I also checked your gallery, you have some fantastic artwork in there as well.

This thread is getting rather huge O_o. I must say however, it's been really nice seeing many of the artists tweaking and improving their entries.

@Captain Blood: Its great to see you spriting again, that portrait is superb, truly impressive... I miss your site... bring it back *cries*.

@Bo: You've made a nice improvement with your new werewolf. The pose is *much* better.

@Razz: Thats a kickass sprite ya got there, very beautiful colors; the black outline helps focus the sprite as well. Also your portrait came out quite nicely, dynamic as well.

@istvan: Somehow I don't trust that guy with a wrench... very nice fighter still.

@allthoseotherpeopleImtoolazytocommenton: d('.'<) thumbs up from kurbeh!

Question for Scuba: Are you allowing palette swaps or not? I think a few pages back you mentioned it was a royal pain to implement...but I can't remember clearly. >.<
