General Discussion / Re: Pixelation the Game (part 3)
« on: June 10, 2006, 01:20:25 am »
i think 'pixelation the game' implies something that has more to do with the community (or at least the old community), developed by that community, for the community... these things should really be called "current and future game releases by wayforward technologies... which  happens to employ a few people who used to frequent pixelation wayback when" if you want to get technical about it.

Ah, so it sounds like this one will be an imrpvement, not to say that xmen 3 looked at all shabby, but im looking forward to seeing how it looks particularly now that youve implied it i s much better.

helm, i say, "yes"... the depth of the plate looks much more like it is bending upwards to accept or embrace the contents (perspective of plate achieved).

i really like these pieces, and they happen to be some of my favorite ^_^. cali rolls are customarily made with the rice on the outermost layer, but ive seen them done either way ( i assume its easier to make just wrapping the rice on the inside perhaps). the tamago is my favorite one, its accuracy and colors are primo and i think it best represents the food its trying to illustrate in an accurate, yet colorful/stylized manner.

the shrimp sashimi has wonderful colors, though i find the shape of the shrimp itself looking a bit too rectangular in nature. i am aware that the belly is slit and is spread out to take the shape of the rice, but in my memory it looks more like a triangle ontop than a square. i knwo if i were personally coloring these i would shift the hue from the orange to apink when going from lighter tones to darker ones, i think that would look especially good on these here shrimpies (slurp)

the only one that seems not very strong to me is the temaki... usually the contents are gushing out the top in an artful manner from what i can remember, yours dont really look 'full' or 'wrapped' as much as they do 'stuffed', if that makes sense. theyre supposed to be very non symmetrical by nature and i can only best describe the contents pouring out like a 'boutique'.

i think your understanding of color is certainly up there, these are fun pieces to look at in general.

oh one last thing there, if you are going for a less shiny/plastic feel, perhaps throw in some texture... also the playful, artificial blue color used for the plate might not really help the illlusion, perhaps switching to a dark green or a deep red (though not overly saturated) would help.

carbon dog is a chump, but the diamond dog is some real trouble. theyre both sissies against bottle rockets though from what i can remember, just psi-shield kill his ass with one of the glasses dude's shield sucker machines.  i basically remember this boss being the one boss in the game that really determines if you have enough experience to really be kicking ass in the game or if youve been running away most of your fights that you can get away with.

ps. i was going to change the news box the other day but i was at a loss as to what should be posted in its stead...

Pixel Art / Re: [SUPER-WIP]How do I drawed robot?
« on: May 19, 2006, 07:22:50 am »

i think its quite stylish! I just added a quick few outlines and some contrast adjustments. its in no way or means supposed to represent a finished rendition as id see it, and unfortunately the quality of my 'quick-edits' dont appear to be that wonderful anymore, hehehe... i think the main thing that i would change with what you have going on now would be some palette choices. i love the green/mint color choices for the shell pieces of the robot, but looking at the grey values, ... theyre pure grey! not that theres always something wrong with that (pure grey looks nice on those shoulder pad looking things), but it would be more interesting to get some variation in there... so i turned that pure grey into a yellowish tinted grey to accent your mint green. Also, watch your saturation, i think you could do with a bit more in the areas that have more highlight! (especially with metal, if you dont have strong contrasting shading and are trying to achieve the anime/capcop metal look, saturated highlights are the way to go).

other than that its just a matter of you getting in there and detailing out the crevices mr. :)

long time no see, and hope you stick around!

who the hell keeps drawing these damn things? *looks around anxiously*

Turbo: you can always improve in anything you do... if you were perfect, then there would be no more desire or need to continue doing it! i think... anyhow, i have no purpose with my art or anything like that, just some guy who pushes teh pixels!

hey alex, i agree about the neck issue. do you have any suggestions there for le fixin? if there is too much contrast there it looks a little silly (ive tried).

Meh, pixellin over here to keep my mind off other things, unfortunately i dont think i quite ahve the focus at the moment to put it towards this one project that i should be *looks around*... its probably for the better though, i feel like im out of shape! so i dont know if im trying to work up a collection of these guys or what... but i made a nother equally rediculous looking pixel piece as the bird.  of course, he has no name and so i have been calling him 'skull guy' :/

and yeh! i know what youre already thinging, "what a ghey ass pose!"... heheh... well too damn bad! lol. His foreground hand could use some work i think *taps finger*...

Edit:
Worked up a new version of this guy. tried some different color schemes here, not to mentoin a few outfit changes. also went for a more bubbly/cloudy look that bahamut lagoon stuff had made oh so much usage out of with their sprites, i really like the effect! (also more consistent with his torso).

trying to get back into the swing of casual art again, and pixel art in general. ive unfortunately havent been able to draw many things for myself for a good while now.

anyhow, i can crit this a bit myself at this point. the main problem i feel if i wanted to be adding more detail is that there could probably be a bit more contrast in the nooks/crannies of the feathers and such to give them more separation and detail (especially under the wing at this point). perhaps a few palette value adjustments as well, but id love to hear feedback on it in general!

edit:  have spent a little more time on this to include a bit more detail and to make the palette much more vibrant and rich. all the points that were brought up were very fair and thanks for that. i unfortunately did not go in and fix any skeletal/anatomical issues that may or may not have been pointed out, but i did add a bit more feather layering and smaller detail to make other certain areas pop a lot better.
