In general, the more I look at it, the more I find the aesthetics appealing, and the easier it is to see what the different levels are.  It's definitely easier on the left than on the right to determine elevation.  Depending on how important it is to the game's mechanics, you might want to look at that.

I love the plant life, and almost everything else--I think it's all finely pixeled and it makes a great environment for the characters.  I just think there should be a few places for the eye to rest.

I'm so pumped for this game...stinks that it's not coming out until '10.

Wow, verrry nice stuff!  Did you use a reference?

I agree that the neck/sweater area is too noisy...and you could do without that outline on the sweater.

Also the rainbow doesn't seem curvy enough to me.  I know it would probably be a pain but I think that to go back and make the rainbow more swoopy and whooshy and dazzly would help a lot.

Also I think I'd like to learn another language.  I'm able to communicate fairly well in Spanish already, but I'd like to learn Japanese now.  I bought "Japanese for Dummies", so there's where I'll start, haha.

Languages I'd like to know during my lifetime:
English
Spanish
Russian
Japanese
Hindi
Swedish
Portuguese (Brazilian)
Khazak (or whatever it's called)
...and more...

perhaps I should get moving.

Is she looking at troops going off to war?

The composition is very nice, but I think you just need to direct focus by adjusting saturation/brightness in certain areas.  Use some more desaturated colors to fill out the spaces in between, because it'll help accent the saturated colors.  Those accents will draw attention to the areas of the piece that you want to draw attention to.

Be sure to leave the tiny-ventilation-shaft-that-can-blow-up-the-entire-station out of the plans.

I spent the actual countdown feeling almost physically wounded by how old and terrible Dick Clark sounds.

But really,
--Complete more large pieces of art and music (commitment!)
--Meet the female of my dreams
--Travel
--Do some exciting things (i.e. bungee jumping)
--Help other people out in some serious way (actually make something useful of myself)
--Generally change the world and not waste my life

I rang in the new year by running outside to look at the stars.  Then my friend and I ran to the beach, it was cool.  There was no moon so the stars were really bright.

Oops.  :-X

I suggest a more gradual transition from the planet color to the purple, like this:
