Pixel Art / Re: Iso Character assignment
« on: July 04, 2008, 01:55:44 pm »
Well i got an assignment where i had to do a character from a concept with the restrictions:

16 color template
Max 70 pixels high and follows a 3x1 Isometric grid.

And here is the outcome.

the eyebrows was my biggest issue here.

C&C welcome.

Hey, from previous posts I can see you have pretty good experience whit isometric stuff....
But there are some inconsistence here if I am not wrong, I never worked whit 3x1 grid but I suppose it looks like the blue line I have on my image...yes? Well there you can see that your sprite is clearly on normal isometric view...correct me if I am wrong.
But hey I still like a lot your sprite, its very detailed...the only part that is bothering me are eyebrows...don't like how they are over the hat.

The one you have there is Cabinet projection....
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cabinet_projection

Shading is made whit one light source..actually it depends, but normally one side is darker than other...if that makes sense to you.
Actually watch the iso cube above, it shows all you asked, form, shading...

Well, I agree that a lance is mostly used against charging enemy, but this all depends on the weapon we are talking about, Chinese spear for example is made more for swing attacks while European mediaval spears were mostly to stab.

As for attacking, is you want a stab animation for a spear you should make the character to advance forward whit his front leg, leaning his body forward as well.... his legs position would look a little like kiba-dachi on karate.

The piece is certainly amazing, but isn't it a little off scale? I mean there are some creatures on the ground already and the hunter looks quite big compared to them.... or maybe its just me, whiteout seeing it all together.

some WIP of mine.... still thinking of what to do whit empty ground

Also I would suggest using a little more dark brown, it might occult the difference between tiles.... just try it out, might work

I still dont know which tile I can take... should I wait for the Joe to decide which one he'll have or what?

I was asking for 19.... or 9 if not possible to take the first one

If you want 19, I'll take 9.

Thanks, taking 19  :)
