General Discussion / Re: pixel art at 2x view
« on: September 02, 2012, 10:02:41 pm »
About seeing AA, I dont think you are really supposed to notice the AA. Its supposed to be a subtle effect to smooth the image not to have you notice a sometimes off colored pixel or two between a color and its background. Pixel art also relies on illusions which are not as effective at 2x. Dithering at 2x is not as effective as dithering at 1x. I do think that alot of the time pixel art does look better, its just a different side of the argument.

General Discussion / Re: Sub Pixels
« on: August 10, 2012, 12:11:12 pm »
I was testing out a theory I had with sub pixels yesterday and it didnt work out as planned. I made a 36x36 pixel image and i filled it with the red green blue pattern for each block of three pixels.
I made what should be a white circle with slight antialiasing around a slightly purple background. However when i shrunk it to 1/3 of its size that is not what it was. is what I came up with, a green circle. I am not sure why this happened though i believe it is because the green subpixel is the subpixel most related to brightness.

Thanks for all the answers guys I guess what I was mainly wondering was whether or not pixel art sub-pixels are the real sub-pixels or just changing color as I've heard before. Also is there a real "way" to come up with the colors you would use as real sub-pixel animation because I think it would be interesting to put sub-pixels into use in pixel art.

General Discussion / Sub Pixels

I was looking around reading about sub pixel rendering and found this topic: http://www.wayofthepixel.net/pixelation/index.php?topic=1882.0 and some others about sub pixel animation and all that. However the topic's picture that i linked are broken So I am wondering, are sub pixels just anti-aliasing, is it something different, or is it a special type of anti-aliasing that conforms to the red green blue colors of the sub pixels in out monitors? I know in some text there is sub pixel rendering that uses what i would say oddly hued colors for the aaing.

Pixel Art / Re: 32colour palette [V0.9]
« on: August 05, 2012, 01:23:39 pm »
I like the palette a lot but one problem I see with it is that there is quite a large difference the two brightest yellows (not counting the one that is almost white). I tried to replicate one of the forums smileys to look almost the same but found that there was no color to make it look nearly the same only quite a bit darker and quite a bit lighter. So maybe you could make a new yellow.
Edit: I used the vibrant pallet for this not sure about the other ones though.

Does anyone else think that the horn is in the wrong place? Either that or the hair is messed up. Like it seems like on the side of the head facing us the hair is pressed up against the pony's face but on the other side its like 20 inches away. And it looks like the horn is coming out of the side of the pony's head and not going straight and out of the front of the ponies hair. Also the pony's head is very flat.

The two halves of her face have different perspectives.
Edit: reading what cure wrote her face is fine but she is missing a large portion of her head.

Well, if your in gimp you have to put in (replace) on each frame. This will make each frame replace the last. Also, this is looking so much better and this is a learning experience for me too! :)
