I like the TV! I feel like the other two new objects are missing something, though.

If you're going for sort of a Mother 3 style, let's consider some reference images...

While an individual object in the scene may be simple, each one tends to have some sort of small detail to it, or a more interesting angle than simply straight-on.

Anyway, an edit:

Seiseki came up with the same idea as I had while I was working on this!  :) I dropped the fridge legs because they don't really work at this angle, tried to give the doors more of a feeling of thickness, and added packing tape to the box to make it more interesting.
I notice these are at a different scale from your first items, did you decide to work bigger?

Pretty quick edit and I'm not that familiar with the style, but I referenced a couple images:

Their front legs are sort of tapered cylinders, but they're not totally stiff, and I think it will help if you go for something less stiff. Changed a few other things but it's like three in the morning now, I've gotta stop doing these so late at night...

Thank you all for the feedback, and thanks for the edit, Facet - that does look a lot better. I'm putting this on hold for finals week, but after that I'll pick it up again and rework things.

Concept art + preliminary mockup for a later area, a night time forest

Tiles need work on a lot of fronts... :/ I need to simplify it first of all, I think - it doesn't fit the  feel of the first area at all right now.

I like your dirt/stone tiles, but the trees look odd because they have very blue-purple shading when the rest of the scene does not. It's a definite improvement but consider the Secret of Mana reference images in the tutorial link, particularly the one where they first zoom in on the grass tile. The exaggerated shadows on the trees work there because the same shadows are used elsewhere in the tileset.

Your grass tile is bringing the rest of the scene down, I think: it's got very strong grid lines and appears to have been made with a noise tool, so it has extraneous colors in it. The same tutorial has a couple sections focusing on grass tiles and removing obvious grid lines, so that should help a bit.

The whole scene already looks much better than your first one! And I agree with Zizka, I like what you're doing with the house.

I've edited the torso mostly, plus a little tweak to her right calf (viewer left).

I made her ribcage a little broader, and pretty much redid her breasts. The breasts were very high up on your version, so I moved them down and made them a little less perfectly round - they ended up a little larger than I meant them too, but remember that even small breasts will be effected by gravity. I've moved her belly button down a bit further (maybe a smidge too far) and I've rounded her stomach out a bit.

For the breasts, from what I recall, a good rule of thumb is that the bottom of the breast should lie roughly halfway between the shoulder and the elbow. (Someone please correct this if I'm wrong, it's been a while since I've focused on anatomy?)

This looks much better already!

Your tall grass is really dark and heavily contrasted compared to everything else, though. I'd lower the contrast on that so it matches the rest of the set. I don't know if the shadows are mocked-up or not but you have some stray pixels in the shadows on the trees. The shadows on the flowers also seem too diffuse. Consider how close they are to the ground.

The "lightning bolt" coming out of the cloud is distracting, it kind of makes them look like thought balloons. It's not exactly bad, it's just kind of odd? The clouds also feel a little small compared to the rest of the scene, and I think they might benefit from another lighter shade. You have three colors in them right now but the two darker shades are close enough that it just looks like two colors.

The green mushrooms are also really distractingly bright - I'd tone down their saturation a little.

I'm picking over the details since you want it perfect, but your second mockup already looks so much better than the first. It's coming along very nicely.  :)

Right now it feels like you have a lot of disparate elements - nothing really blends well together. I would recommend reducing your palette, to start with, at least for some of the foliage. Instead of an individual palette for each plant, use a single one.
You also have some perspective confusion, I think. Some of these are nearly straight-on, while some seem to be going for a sort of Zelda nearly-top-down perspective.

Edit/mockup:

I reduced the palette, added shadows to everything and tweaked the shading on the trees. I also repositioned the flowers/shaded around them a bit so they'd seem a little less top-down. I'm not sure what the cloud is meant for but here's one that keeps the swirly look while adding more volume. If it's not meant for scenery and is meant for a power or something you would probably want it less bulky.

Thanks for the feedback!
Do you mean on the "background" bits of rock? That'd help break up the monotony.
I wasn't really sure where I was going with those blocks, I may remove them. I think the grey ones may need work as well - they were meant to be stone but they turned out too metallic.

And yes, there will be monsters! I'm still not quite certain what they'll be, which is why they're not here yet.

Hi everyone! I've been lurking on and off and making pixel art as a hobby for a few years now. Lately I've been trying to make Flash games - my first proper game will be a simple platformer. I have a mock-up level and some player sprites right now.

It's going to be fairly short, I'd just like to do something cute and simple. I'd really appreciate crits and comments on what I have so far. :) Thanks!
