Pixel Art Feature Chest / Re: [WIP] "Labyrinth" Sprites and Tiles
« on: June 13, 2013, 03:27:33 am »
Two things. I've always heard the common rule in pixel art is "No Black."

One improvement is to change the outline a bit, whenever it's possible.

. . .

Also, the perspective seems off if this is going to be for a RPG.

I always get this wrong too when creating my own sprites.

I tried to fix it a bit for you (final sprite on the left):

Apologies for my lack of expertise, but there's probably something you can do with it.

Still needs work on the bottom half, the feet mainly.

. . .

In other news, it's really looking excellent! Keep up the good work, and don't give up.

This is kinda harder than it looks.

Those reference images definitely helped, but I don't think it's something I can adapt.

Here's the product:

. . .

Though, I did take one feature of my failure and create something out of it through exaggeration.

Tail wagging:

Is that something that can be substituted than what was being sought for?

Pixel Art / Re: Making of 4 scenes for a indie game

On the third scene, the first tower on the left blends with the base for the tree in the back left.

Needs some way to illustrate separation between the two.

Other than that I cannot spot any glaring errors. That's some pretty awesome work mate.

Trying that as we speak, but the bottom is too small to create ripples/waves/humps.

It just keeps coming out terrible.

Yes, the "teru teru bozu" came to mind for me as well.

Nice catch. That's exactly what I had in mind. :p

Added shading, and fixed the outline's inconsistency.

I also attempted to create that flutter effect you're looking for, and make the head lead more so...

But it's hard to do so, I don't think it's within my ability. I tried anyways:

But, there's minimal movement already :/

Two frames forward, and two frames to revert back to standing.

Perhaps a longer gif will illustrate it more?

Tell me what you think.

[EDIT:] Sorry, I misread. I'll attempt to restrict movement on the body...

but the waving effects will be hard to accomplish.

Will attempt anyhow though.

Going for a simple approach, nothing too complicated.

Trying to spruce it up. Any help is welcomed.

General Discussion / Re: Official Off-Topic Thread 2014

Great work, Carnifax.

 :-\

Maybe he thinks your name is a reference to the metal band: Carnifex?

Or the Latin word for "executioner"?

Or I could just be overexamining a simple error :p

General Discussion / Re: Can anybody identify this?
« on: May 30, 2013, 01:47:21 pm »
Sorry for the late reply guys, rough night.

I recall seeing it somewhere on Pixelation, (here) actually.

Someone had it as their avatar and it really caught my eye.

Also, tried Reverse Google image and came up with squat results.

. . .

Might be better to just explain your intent/what you're trying to do. It sounds like you're trying to establish a palette for a game.

Yes, that's it.

Sorry for the ruse if there was any, my lingo hasn't really improved much and have trouble explaining myself.

I remember a thread on this site, where people submitted charts of the palettes they commonly use for their pixel art-designing.

Was wondering if anyone had one relative to the one used for that picture.

. . .

there doesn't seem to be quantization on the colors (like on a SEGA MegaDrive, where all the colors would end up with a 7 or a F due to 5-bit per color channel), at least. So I'd say it's a 26-colors picture in a 24bit colorspace.

Thank You! This is part of what I was looking for.

This definitely helps very much. Giving me a sort of idea what I'd be limiting myself to for mock/emulation.

. . .

The image you posted (which has actually been cropped from the original) was by coffee and comes from this topic (though all the images in that topic are dead).

It may be worth browsing the user's post history to find similar work, but I too am curious about what you're trying to accomplish.

It was definitely a interesting scroll.

Would you think these pics perhaps include the same color scheme as the other pic I posted?

The greens look similar, but I don't know about anything else.

The browns for example look far different.

Pixel Art / Re: Tree [WIP]
« on: May 30, 2013, 01:35:11 pm »
The original tree was way more interesting.

I agree. It had a more sense of reality and flaw as an actual tree, from my perspective.

The one here:

Seems to be the most flourishing design, so far.

Replace it with the trunk in the final image, and edit the center malformed bush on the tree top, and I'll think you'll have a fine tree.
