if possible maybe a simple quick canvas resize, like in mspaint (drag the corner of the canvas)

after toying around with it for a while i couldn't add much readability (without making it look terrible) to nose without adding shadows to the rest of the face, which imo didn't look any good. I decided on using a lighter shade for the line on the bottom to try to avoid it being read as a mouth in the first place, also edited the brow shadows a bit. At the size i couldn't get a mouth to look right so i just left it out.

anyway, i think i'm pretty much done with the portrait and would appreciate some feedback on the standing sprites

well, generally they only face the camera in their idle sprites, they might be tilted a little during animations but not as much as in yours.

by looking right i didn't mean the eyes, i meant the entire head, well the face at least, her head is angled but her body is pure side view
now that i look at the arms a bit it looks as though shes grabbing onto rails either side of her, i don't think its that big a problem, it just looks a bit weird.

i find the way she's looking right the whole time very creepy...
i dunno if i like it or not but it really looks like shes swimming with her arms.

basically, it just means adding shade and light, defining shape and volume with various techniques

just a little bit of a suggestion on how to adjust the angle to what i assume you want, just a few quick lines but i think it might help, if you need help with the rendering i can probably spend a bit more time on it and actually come up with something decent

where exactly did i suggest practice? i just linked a tutorial and suggested using some reference pictures

i preferred the first one, i don't really think the new one has as much character, id suggest looking into some street fighter sprites, the style is relatively simple but effective, i think your problem is your looking at the whole thing while your drawing, it'll work much better if you focus on individual parts till they look right (obviously after drawing a basic outline) remember to try to draw from references, figure out why different body parts look the way they do.

http://www.geocities.com/skulkraken2002/ go to tsugumo chapter 9, it looks confusing if you skim over it but the effort pays off

also try to work on a more neutral colour like Grey. i might get around to an edit when my mouse stops screwin around
