Pixel Art / Re: [WIP] Isometric Amusement Park
« on: November 12, 2006, 12:02:30 am »
Shadow from the fence on the bottom beach would be good as its hard to tell whether its a beach or a cliff.  Like the way you
shaded the merrigoround's top.
The bottom area is a cobblestone road. I'll work on shadows after I finish the coaster.

This is a WIP that I'm doing for a friend. It's going to be palced in my isometric city at http://thegriddle.net/isocity/ in the Pirate Cove region. I plan on adding a lot more including some sort of shipwreck possibly with a ride in it, and a midway and a few other 'flat rides'.

C+C appreciated, but I'm hesitant to make really big changes like moving the waterslide or the go-kart track.

TO DO:
  • Finish rides and stalls and such, including beach and observation tower and/or boardwalk and add more horses to the carousel.
  • Add the shipwreck to the top corner.
  • Tweak rides to look better.
  • Detail everything - break up monotony in the grassy areas and road.
  • Tweak palette to be wild, but still fit with the theme of that section of the city.
  • Create animated gifs to lay over the image for various rides.

General Discussion / Re: Game Maker Iso City

That's pretty nifty.  Kennet Fejer beat you to it, though: Iso City :P
True, the one I'm making now was started this past weekend and his was established in 2004, but my original Iso City was started in 2003 or earlier (I remember making it before October 2003 because of my join date on the GM COmmunity). http://geocities.com/gmisocity

I know that not all of the buildings are pixeled, but mine are pixeled and a lot of the others are too. I hope the non-pixelled ones don't make you guys not want to make buildings here.

I know that historically there have been many GMC forum members here and forum members here that use Game Maker. This is a collaborative isometric link page that was originally for GM users. It's now open to any Pixelation user who would like to create a building to link to their personal website, portfolio, MySpace, LiveJournal, etc etc. You may email me with a building you create ot you may reply here and I will check for entries periodically.

Currently there are 3 nice districts and a 4th borough which is for sloppily made artwork. (I don't expect that from you guys.) More boroughs to come, including a snowy portion, a roadrunner/wile e. coyote style desert, and possibly a Chinatown type area. Or Little Canadia. I'm not sure yet.

Pixel Art / Re: Need Help with R.P.G Grass

I really like the way you made the transition from grass to flat green in the tiles there. Could you do something similar with the water? Not only is the transition really abrupt but it's also really plain and flat and smooth. I also wanted to point out that the small island in the river looks too much like a plain grass tile. Maybe you could try to curve the corners of it and make it a few pixels smaller? I'd love to see where you go with this - especially if you make rock or dirt or sand tiles.

I Am Uh: Sounds good

Larwick: Everyone should still follow your advice, but at the end I will go through and adjust the palette to match the original tiles the best way possible just in case someone forgot and the colors and such got a bit funky.

Edit: I'd also like to reserve tile 72 once the adjacent tile is posted.

im saying; "how is that art?" because its what, 9 lines and two directions?  you cant call that finished.
its my opinion, and even if it may sound like im being a total ass about it, whatever, im standing by it.
Well, if you'd read the rest of the replies in this topic then you would know that it's not completely finished. And being a complete all like you were (and said so yourself) is against the board rules. A critique gives good points about the work as well as points which need improvement and lists suggestions for improvement. All you did is make probably the most rude and nonsupporting statement in the history of Pixelation.

And why is it that you don't even seem to have the balls to add the the collaborative piece yourself? You really seem like an idiot for posting such an awful crit without giving it a shot yourself. But that part is just my opinion.

Morph - As far as the rules go, you may have tile 20. However, here are a few points you may want to consider and possibly revise your tile accordingly:

- Tile 21 may already be in progress and your tile may not fit with that tile.
- Your tile doesn't match up very well with the adjacent lava tile and you should attempt to at least flow with the lines of the neighboring tile if not mimic the style as well.
- The image already has a small section of water and your tile's water section looks very awkward compared to it. Perhaps you could try using the same colors unless you are looking for more of a swampy water effect.

I really like the geyser of lava though. It's pretty good - there's just something about the rocky ground that's bugging me. If you want to adjust your tile and take some more time to work on it, go ahead. It can always be updated later. If not, that's your choice - but someone else may wish to improve upon it and it wouldn't be entirely out of the question.

Morph: Please read the rules. You cannot have that tile.
Terley: I suppose people can do that, but only if it's not a really big edit like a total redo of the tile. Also, to save loading time, maybe the edit could be cropped to only include that tile and the neighbors to it.
Pixeled_Midget: Even if you want to wait on it, you can still reserve the tile if you'd like to now. Also, try using the edit button on your post next time, ok?  :y:
