Pixel Art / Re: Look there, it's a DRAGON ! (how original !)
« on: May 10, 2008, 02:28:48 pm »
The fire looks pretty cool, I like the "texture" of it :)
I'm having some trouble reading what's going on with the dragon's left (our right) shoulder, is something on top of it?  The left arm is also a bit too high if you want to make it appear that it's bearing weight on the ground.
The connection between the left leg and body seems a little thin.
The light source is a bit confusing in some areas, is the fire meant to be the only one, or is there another coming from the left?

Thanks for the refs Cave (wow that picture was disturbing), but while it's unrealistic it's kind of a style thing for me to make her that stretched out :)

I worked on the neck a bit more, I think it's better now.  Some more updates, but haven't tackled the fur yet ;)

Thanks Adarias and Salvage :)
The light is coming from the top, a bit to the left... yes, I screwed up on the lighting on the neck as I wasn't sure how to handle it.  I still have to do some work on it so it hopefully won't look quite as flat, but is this approach better?
A tiny bit of cleanup, and more work on the hair was done as well.

Pixel Art / Re: [WIP] Isometric City again (this time with editing done)

It's a nice start.  I think there are some scaling issues; for example, the people are taller than the doors, and some objects (eg. garbage can, potted plant) are almost a story tall when you compare them to the buildings.  Since the buildings have a black outline, it may keep things more in the same style to put black outlines around the other objects as well.  The flags look a little flat; try to avoid "banding" when shading.

Good luck as you continue working on this!

Pixel Art / Mrs Lovett from Sweeney Todd
« on: February 05, 2008, 10:50:49 pm »
Hello!
I'm trying to pixel a picture of Mrs Lovett from Sweeney Todd.  I'm not really aiming for a likeness to Bonhem Carter, but the costume will be based on that of the recent movie.
Still very messy and sketchy right now, but I'm not happy with the shading around her neck and am a bit unsure how to proceed.  Looking at it now, I think there's too much highlight on her left shoulder, but I often get confused with shading.
All crits welcome, thanks!

I really like that cat character, simple, cute, n' stylish :)  However, due to its simplicity, I find that the strong patterned background overpowers it too much.  A plainer background would be more in keeping with the character, I think--or, if you want to keep the pattern, reducing the contrast would probably help.
