Pixel Art / C64 War Hammer
« on: February 25, 2009, 07:58:02 pm »

No, not Warhammer scenes re-done in Commodore colors, just a war hammer, sorry. Now that you're thoroughly disappointed, scope out my wide-pixel Commodore 64 war hammer WIP.

This weapon is intended to be wielded by graphic designers, involved in game development projects, to crush and destroy pushy programmers that get in their way.

I'm going for the warm/cold opposite lighting technique. I admire the strange and interest-creating coloring techniques of the more advanced among you, but it doesn't come naturally to me, yet, I'm working on that here.

General Discussion / List of the Old Skool palettes
« on: December 19, 2008, 10:29:38 pm »
Where's the definitive source for all the old primitive palettes - C64, Amiga, NES, etc?

I want to experiment with them. Please advise. My best bet is just a stinkin' wiki page - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_palettes

General Discussion / How to pick a palette
« on: December 12, 2008, 12:12:00 am »
Simply put, how does one wisely choose the right palette for the right job?

For example, if starting art production on a pixel-art style side-scroller game set in outer space, how do you guys here create a palette that'll give you the versatility you need, yet still emulate that great low color, old school look.

I'm thinking somewhere in the neighborhood of 24 colors. I tried to just arbitrarily grab a palette and run with it. But, even after making mods to it, I'm still unsatisfied with what it offers me.

I know you guys feel my pain, where am I going wrong?

Pixel Art / Critique please. New to pixeling.
« on: March 24, 2007, 06:30:08 pm »
Hey guys, I'm new here. I recently became afflicted with the pixel fascination, after all of this time being a digital artist. I don't know why it took so long.

Anyway, I'm seeking crit from the pros, and I think I'm in the right place.

Started a Pixel Joint gallery, here's my most current project:

Right now I'm working on all the pixel techniques, AA, dithering, SelOut, etc. The characters were created just to have subject matter to practice on.
Thanks for viewing. Leave me a comment. Even if you just wanna say I suck! My goal here is to simply improve my pixeling as fast as possible, I figure guidance from you guys will help a lot.
