General Discussion / The Official Pixelopolis OT-Creativity Thread
« on: October 10, 2005, 07:11:24 pm »
By general concensus by the representatives, I'm happy to present the Official Pixelopolis OT-Creativity Thread.

The purpose of this thread is to allow members to post non-pixel works they had a hand in creating. This can be anything from CG art collaborations to bits of software, photographs, music compositions, or anything else that falls out of the generel perview. Same rules apply as far as content. Try to keep it clean or link and warn, etc... We're trying this out on a temporary basis to judge if it benefits the forum as a whole. Enjoy!

General Discussion / Isometrics (Pixipedia)
« on: October 10, 2005, 05:52:32 pm »
I've been working on some material for an isometric topic over at the Pixipedia Wiki. C+C is welcome, though this is posted in the General section for a reason. I would greatly appreciate any help with adding information here that will go into the page. While Zoggles' Isometric Tutorial pages are a great place to gather information from, his data is not thorough enough, and he makes a few mistakes on some of his examples. RhysD also did a decent tutorial, but it's also incomplete and has some mistakes in it. So please, any and all iso related information is needed.

Method A (Odd):

Method B (Offset):

Method C (Joint):

Kitchen in B:

We need examples of the other isometric methods, as well as the mathematical details for common and less common iso methods, including scaling percentages for the skewing of photographs to be used as guides.

http://news.deviantart.com/article/19438/

We encourage you to take a look and see if it's something you'd like to participate in. If it's not your cup of tea, don't worry: Our representatives are busy developing activities for the holiday, so stay tuned! :)

General Discussion / The Official Pixelopolis Off-Topic Thread
« on: September 30, 2005, 01:47:34 pm »
You're welcome to talk about anything, including how well or how poorly the officers are conducting themselves; this is the off-topic thread. Keep it clean!

     • How is everyone doing concerning PT's passing? If we need more time, I'll keep the topic pinned.

     • Octoberness coming, weather changing!! Perhaps it's premature, but Halloween is almost here! I kind of wish it was a month long, though I'm getting sick of sweets more often. Did I hear this right, Candy Corn flavored soda?!

     • I encourage everyone to pixel at least once a day! Talent, like dreams, must be fed on a regular basis!

Happy OTness!

Let the good times roll!

     • Did you sign up for the Pirate activity?

     • Forum has been running smoothly and there have been lots of good critiques being shared. Awesome, great work everyone!!

     • OT Question: Which classic video game characters have done the best to maintain their dignity over the years, and which are whores to the industry?

You're welcome to talk about anything, including how well or how poorly the officers are conducting themselves; this is the off-topic thread. Keep it clean!

General Discussion / Lego Pixel Artists - Color Registration
« on: September 12, 2005, 08:17:04 pm »
My brother happens to be a lego collector who pixels, and I thought these links would be useful to others out there:

http://isodomos.com/ColorTree/LegoList

http://isodomos.com/ColorTree/Tree

This list provides pantone, rgb, and cmyk values for all of the colors of lego plastics ever used. No more guess work :)

Another week of fun and excitement.

     • Have you given a serious critique this week?

     • Good luck to our new Representatives! I look forward to many a fun activity!

     • OT Challenge: Props to whomever can tell a good pixel art related joke! Is it possible?

     • What's your favorite video game soundtrack, or song??

You're welcome to talk about anything, as this is the off-topic thread. Keep it clean! :P

General Discussion / Voting Results!!!
« on: September 01, 2005, 07:09:50 am »
Thank you to everybody who ran, and to those which voted on the candidates!

Voter turnout was approximately 25 to 35% of the membership. If we assumed everyone voted four times, then voter impact was 22%, but not everyone voted four times as the varying poll values suggest.

The Results:
     Winners:
1st Blick 38 Votes, 30.4% of the vote.
2nd Dogmeat 37 Votes, 29.6% of the vote.
3rd StairwaytoEvan 19 Votes, 15.2% of the vote.
4th BrotherInWar 18 Votes, 14.4% of the vote.
     Runners up:
Alex 13 Votes, 10.4% of the vote.

Additional statistics:
A total of 125 votes were cast.

Booth 1 had 35 votes cast total.
Alex: 4
Blick: 11
BrotherInWar: 7
Dogmeat: 8
StairwaytoEvan: 5

Booth 2 had 33 votes cast total.
Alex: 2
Blick: 12
BrotherInWar: 4
Dogmeat: 13
StairwaytoEvan: 2

Booth 3 had 28 votes cast total.
Alex: 3
Blick: 7
BrotherInWar: 4
Dogmeat: 7
StairwaytoEvan: 7

Booth 4 had 29 votes cast total.
Alex: 4
Blick: 8
BrotherInWar: 3
Dogmeat: 9
StairwaytoEvan: 5

Dogmeat won the most booths, winning booth 2 and 4, but tied booth 3. Blick had the popular vote. Blick is to Al Gore, as Dogmeat is to Bush. Good thing we don't use an electoral college.

People voted least in booth three, so perhaps they were confused by the 'CHOOSE, CHOOSE THE FORM OF THE DESTROYER.' comment.

Challenges & Activities / The Retro RPG Challenge 2
« on: September 01, 2005, 05:17:28 am »
Hey everybody, this week we're carrying on the GBC based RPG challenge!

There are several goals here!

1. Create at least 4 monster battle sprites/images. The requirements are the same as the last time: You can only use up to 4 colors per tile and a maximum of eight 4 color palettes. These are SPRITES, not Tiles, so one color will always be transparent, which in other words will mean white, so you could make use of it! Your sprites cannot be larger than 48x48. If you want to create a hero for the battle scene, you're welcome to do that, though it's not obligatory!

2. Create an overworld hero (if you haven't done so in the last challenge), and at least 2 overworld sprites to represent any of the monsters you've created. You must create at least a 2 frame walking animation of each at 8x8 or 16x16 in size. For an additional challenge, create 4 facings for the overworld sprites!

3. create at least one visual effect, such as magic. This effect can only use 1 palette and must be treated like a sprite (1 color is transparent), but it can be any size and of any number of frames.

Like last time, you can work with one partner. Perhaps someone wants to design the sprite outlines, and another person would like to color them! Feel free to get collaborative in this challenge!

Here are some samples!!!

Dragon Warrior III GBC:

Dragon Warrior Monsters 2, Tara's Adventure:

Lufia, The Legend Returns:

I will be acquiring animation samples very soon, as well as more samples in general, so please feel free to start the static portions of this activity!

General Discussion / Hurry and Vote!!! Time's almost run out!
« on: August 30, 2005, 11:52:11 pm »
We've had an approximately 19 to 22 percent voter turnout and it looks like things are too close to call. If we can't determine seat ranks for candidates, we'll have to determine the outcome through a game of pixel paper-rock-scissors! Seriously, it's up to you whether we do things this way or not. You have just a little over 1 day left to let your voice be heard! If you haven't voted four times, now's your chance to finish!

Smash the vote!!! XD
