Pixel Art / Re: Little purple bat

Your animation looks really great, but I can only use 3 different frames, and yours is 4. Anyway, I did another one in the shapes you suggested, and although it doesn't animate as nice as yours, it looks much better than before. Thanks.

It's an RPG game. And I think although it is more realistic, it doesn't scream I AM A BAT as much... hehe

Updated. It looks nice, but I don't know if anyone who looks will say it's a bat... maybe only because it's dark, I think... And will be used in caves and forests...  :D

I don't know, Opacus, even though I like your flapping I think it wouldn't be as clearly visible ingame, since he's wings are only 1 pixel thick...
And pixelisforhire, yours is really looking like a crab hehehe... Thanks anyway!

Pixel Art / Moustache Zombie and Little purple bat
« on: February 02, 2007, 05:54:16 am »
Here's a little bat I've done to use in my game. I can only use 3 different frames to animate it and cannot make it any wider, and it will be viewed in game at 2x resolution. Crappy RPG Maker 2k limitations. I think his wings flapping is a bit strange, it doesn't really look like a bat flapping, but it makes him look funny.  :)   Say anything you feel like.

Now, a zombie I've also made for my game. Yes, he has a moustache, and I he's red cos I wanted him to be different, but maybe I picked too strong hues. And I also think I couldn't get his side view to look decent. It's a comedy game, so he's not supposed to look too real, just funny. In game resolution is 2x this and again, only 3 frames. Any comments are appreciated.

noob question: is it really all that bad to use a transparent layer? Or is it just a puritan thing?

Changed the hues to blue, I liked it, and it looks better ingame. Thanks!
Soon I'll post my charcter sprites and their animations too.

@ZoSo and Aritriste: Yes, it is indeed RPGMaker, although the 2000 version. And as progFX already quoted my saying, I only did the char and clouds, and the tile set is a mix from default graphics and some taken from the net. And as I said at the beginning, I started making this game only for fun, and it was back in 2001 or so, and I didn't care wether the graphics were mine or not, crappy or not. It was just fun, and still is, only now I'm more interested in learning pixel art. Oh, and thanks a lot for the compliment, Aristriste.

@Stwelin: I only posted the screenshot of the game to show how the clouds were being used, nothing more. It would be a little hard to tell only by the cloud sprites. As for the clouds, I'm already using 4 shades, although it may not look like so, maybe I need to use the darker shades a bit more. And I'll try some different hues, I liked the ideia. Thanks for the feedback!

It looks very cool, but since I'm really a noob, there's not much I can say. Only thing I noticed is that those muscles on its front right leg make it look like a human arm.

Thanks! I don't know if you meant to make the grass look like the rest of the terrain or just to make the transition smoother. If it's the first case, that grass was intended to stick out, because that's a different type of terrain, so if a fight occurs there, the fight background and monsters will be different. That's the beggining of a grass field up above.
