New update.

(Hopefully) a better 8-frame walk cycle and a new in-game screen with a HUD-element added for health and life display.

I think the grass is a bit too detailed at the moment. I have a feeling that any characters laid over the top would be lost. Perhaps dumbing down the amount of detail in the grass but somehow keeping the great colours you have at the moment might help out? Also the tree and flower details will stand out a bit more. At the moment they're blending in as well. Maybe a slightly darker outline or shading outline on the tree might help.

He looks like he's frowning now :( But the colours are much easier on the eye. Hue shifting really adds to the colour depth of a piece if you use it accurately.

For some reason the green makes it look much smoother than the grey. Maybe it's a timing thing different in the animations , maybe it's just the cleaned up frames*shrugs* (You know better than I, what am i ramlbing about?). I personally think these 6 frames should be fine, but I'm no expert in animation as of now. Proportions look fine, as well, though, you're right, that head didn't translate (I thought it was a weird neck and not a chin at first). Another thing is, though the angle makes it hard to tell for sure, his right arm seems not to move forward very much. It looks good, though, so don't sweat it if you think it's fine.

This is because the green one has 6 frames, the grey has 4..

New update.

Lighter bushes, new mountains and second background layer. Gotta work on the character animations now...they really aren't that great. Will post the temp one i'm using at the moment in a bit.

Edit: Run cycle...only 4-frames and not that great...any tips to improve it would be great.

The edge at the top of the monitor should be a darker colour because it's at the back of the object where the light is hitting the edges from the front. Unless the back of the monitor is raised over the top..if you get what I mean.

it's a bit dark and there's not enough contrast between colours, since you are using so few.

Small update. Made a new dirt tile and added a variation of it with some rocks missing. Also made the colours a tad darker and added some contrast.

Edit 2: added some more level objects. I don't know if i'm heading in the right direction, it's starting to flesh-out the level a bit now though.
