Pixel Art / Re: Plotting Revenge
« on: September 22, 2008, 01:06:03 am »
To me, since the spiteful, brooding character is lit up so vibrantly, I think the background should be brighter, or a small light source that the character is huddling around, like a candle, or a lamp, should be put in, although that would require a rather severe change in the colors used on the character, which may be too much work for the end result. Really a small thing over all, but I just think it wouldn't be bad to think about it. As it is, I'm really enjoying watching this progress, looking forward to the finish.  :)

I;m really diggin the style in this! Although I agree with Xion, the background is a little blank, you could always add those classic hills and clouds. Also, it seems a little silly that all of the sprites have their eyes closed, but that's just preference really. Keep it up :D

Pixel Art / Re: Boy and his Blob dumping ground.

I'm loving these! But something looks a little odd in the run cycle, to me, is looks kind of bow legged, and like he's tip-toeing, only... sped up. I'm not sure if that's wrong, but it just looks a little odd.

All the internal forms look very blobby still, almost pillowshaded.  This shows through in the face where the dithering is very effective, but the forms are still somewhat flat and confusing.  I'd work on defining the musculature and skeleton of the beast just a bit more before you dive too far into finish and polish...for example, how does it close its mouth?

Thanks for the advise Adam, I have been working on the muscles a lot recently, and it's getting a bit better I think, I still have a lot to do on it of course, but it's getting there. Also, closing his mouth? HA! His face is frozen in a constant state of snarl. I kid, That's something I have never taken into consideration before... Also, it is supposed to be at night, which is the reason for all the blueish greens and purples.

A mini update as well...

Pixel Art / Re: My grass tiles are too noisy ):

they're not too noisey.. they look fine in that department.
though i think they need more variety to hide the apparent grid/tiled artifacts (looks repetative horizontally).
add more different tiles to spice things up and break the monotoney, such as some rocks, or flowers, or tufts of longer grass or plants.. etc..

Seconded, These look fine to me but could be greatly improved with a little variety.

Pixel Art / Rawr! Revived Work in Progress!

Hello all, it's been a while since I've posted anything for critique, but I should hope I've still been learning and improving. Some of you may remember my old alien dinosaur.. thing which needed a lot of work. Because of this, I stopped working on it. Anyways, it's back and I've completely reworked it....

10 colors right now.

I was going to be for the challenge at PixelJoint, but I think I might just do it for funsies, comments and criticism are welcomed, updates should come fairly regularly.

General Discussion / Re: Official Off-Topic Thread

Nonsense! I always knew that deep down, underneath the mean twitches, and the cold expression, Helm was really just a cute lil fella, just looking for a hug. I have two cats, and their favorite pass time is either ambush me while carrying juice, or attacking each other for dominance.. I keep hoping they'll get along even though I know they never will. Shame.

In my eyes this s a senseless piece, having no respectable level of skill in the art, nor message, or something to think about.

That's a wee bit harsh, don't you think? I thought I do agree that as of right now, there's not much to look at or critique... So if you're planning to.. work on it beyond the earliest WIP stages, then look for come critique.

I'd lower the brightness of the lightest shade of blue used on the suit a bit, just to make it blend  a bit better. A stylistic nit-pick really. I love where this is going, and look forward to it's finish. ;D
