MSPaint is the only free program I have.  If you have any other suggestions, i'd be glad to hear them.

My advice would be, leave alone the blur tool. Its evil.

Learn to use AA, check out some pixel tutorials. Links are in the tab at www.pixeljoint.com.

Also try and study the pixel art of games that have tree stumps you like, understand what they do to create nice looking stumps.

Well I tried to clean it up a bit. Quick n dirty patch up. (Note I only redid some of the left side)

(The ear I know your going for like an army camo effect) I would suggest bending it more etc.

My main focus on the brow / eye area was trying to eliminate your thick dark lines, with the "sell out" technique (I think thats what its called). Also getting the eye to look more devilish  :mean: and defined.

With the hair i think less is more, just messed it up (hair styling) ;) and then left it with as little as possible shadow.

The ear I just shadowed more plainly.

The colors ( I am not good at those at all) I think are to close to each other in color meaning they look way too similar, try and vary them further apart. :) This you need someone else to help you with. I am trying to understand color myself.

I hope this helps maybe gives you some more ideas.

Regards,

Pixel Art / [WIP] Evil Shaman - Updated 11-02-2007
« on: February 06, 2007, 10:23:03 pm »
I created the Evil Shaman for the competition, however I want to improve my pixel art skill and the picture as a whole.

What do you guys recommend?

EDIT:

And the WIP

EDIT: Will upload new Wip later when I am finally done. :)

I think I did do some major changes to it already, but I just know it can be improved. (since as helm pointed out I have no real technique behind it)

I think were waiting for the rest of the judges.

After they decide on all the winners they will probably create the next round.  ???

At least think of it like this, you know that your next competitor is serious about making sprites, so you'll have real competition!

Good luck to all in the next round :) It's  been fun.

It looks like only 23 of the 32 made it  ???

Well, I have to agree with flaber, we had two weeks, maybe the rest will take it more seriously now?

I Agree the idle animation looks strange, looks more like his bouncing his pecks, like some wrestlers tend to do. Also the lighting is boucing up and down which makes it look very weird. Anybody breathing that heavy will have distinct movement in the whole upper body.
