hi guys. im having a hard time figuring out how to create an isometric circle like this http://www.wayofthepixel.net/pixelation/index.php?topic=6902.0 can grafx2 'skew' circles to the 30 degrees necessary to do this. i know how its done vector wise but the pixel method not so much...  surely there must be a certain method to do this. thanx :)

Devlogs & Projects / Re: D-Pixel (my paint program)
« on: February 03, 2011, 11:53:29 pm »

hey happymonster. nice program you got here. i think the interface as far as ergonomics could be simplified a bit. what do you think of the idea of open sourcing your program. that would make your program available on win, mac, and linux. and would give it a long life of development. i think its something to consider anyway. i notice theres users of both mac and linux and i wouldn't be surprised if people jumped on the opportunity to develop this program. its very pretty too :)

i also own adobe ps7 elements. not sure if elements is good for pixel art. theres artrage too. dunno if artrage work for pixel editing though. and im trying the demo of pd pro4

This comes up all the time. Pro's and con's of pixel software.
Have you tried searching the forums here?
I just use Photoshop, it's awesome and horrible, for pixel art, at the same time.
Look at Graphics Gale and Pro Motion while you're busy testing software.

i didn't do a search. i looked at the recommended software (which always ends up in cosmigo promotion)
:edit: i just read threads like that, and see that promotion and gale are the most popular. i would buy promotion but, as ive bought 1000s of dollars in software, i know how the development world works. id say promotion is a dead product, basically, "we wont acknowledge that development has stopped as that would lead to loss of sales but we wont dont plan on developing it anymore either" which is why im afraid to purchase it. hate to say but 2 half years since a new release is basically software in stasis unless somebody has heard different then my mistake.

what software has totally improved your workflow and is something that you enjoy creating in?

ive been playing with grafx2, and am now trying paint.net. im trying to find a very stable, very fast, multi-threaded, ergonomic and not ugly ui and updated frequently. im just curious what software has brought out the inner artist in you and that you find is very fun at the same time?

p.s. sorry about the one line spamming i didn't know these rules at the time :-[

General Discussion / grafx2. grab brush/object on layer.
« on: February 02, 2011, 05:42:33 pm »
in grafx2, what exactly are layers? im under the impression that they are unique and that each layer has nothing to do with one another. when i create a new layer, and draw on it, i assume that im grabbing/selecting from a new and unique layer. however, grafx2 is not working this way. its working in the sketchup layer way (layers are not unique and all connect with layer1) what i want to do is create a unique layer so that i can grab brushes/objects with out grabbing the already created object. currently when i create a new layer, then grab it, it draws a black square that covers the object, but does not select it and also grabs the object from layer1. ive found a way to use the lasso for grabbing on layer1.  ive posted pictures to show you what i mean. thanx cybernetic

Pixel Art / Re: Shading
« on: January 31, 2011, 06:56:43 pm »
im making a game, and am using a sixteen-color pallet, and as a crappy pixel artist i am wondering how would i go about shading this:

sorry for it not being animated. i just cant get it to upload right...
pallet:

its tiny XD

thanks. i swear this one won't die  :D

hey dude, im a total  :noob: too lol. i heard its good to start off with a very limited palette. i think 16 colors is too much. if you cant shade with 2/4 colors you wont be able to shade with 16. take my comments with a grain of salt though :)

im trying to create a 4 color palette, so i go to palette, reduce, and set the reduce color to 4 colors. (because i read when your just starting off you should use a very limited palette) what i want to do is set the palette to 4 colors, and only show those 4 colors instead of the default 256 colors. but when i set the reduce to 4 and change the color, it changes the colors of the user interface too. (it also changes the color of the interface when set at default 256 color. why does it do this  thanx  :) cybernetic

General Discussion / Re: grafx2. big white border on select and paste.
« on: January 31, 2011, 06:30:23 pm »
You probably grabbed "outside" the brush. In grafx2, the brush grabbing tools pick the pixels that are under the marching ants, on all sides : So you need to 'overwrite' the pixels you want to grab.

For iso, be sure to try the shift key with the line tool.

thanx ;D
