Pixel Art / Re: learning by doing - pixelART logo

To be honest, I like the first more than the second. I think the second one looks great (and the palettes on both are perfect), but the broken curve on the logo in the second is what kills it for me. If you can fix that curve, it'll be perfect.

On the first, I actually think it looks awesome... the part I don't like for it is the horizontal glow at the very top center at the top of the lightning bolt -- it looks too pillowed to me. I think if instead of making it a linear gradient, you should try having a lot more of the darker shades than the lighter shades. Perhaps a little of those 2x2 squares can help up there too if used nicely.

I'm going to go take a closer look at this palette... it's so lovely. :)

Not quite. It's less the number of colors and more the colors chosen, and more what you do with them. Making something look SNES is something I've not gotten down, it's a very subtle art.

I think it's a good base, the shaping and everything -- should make a nice banner. The colors look very NES to me, which I think is good too -- oldschool. My only problem with it is that it feels flat -- I think it needs more depth.

For example, I made a 5-minute edit of the buttons (hope you don't mind), to show them to look a little deeper. I completely killed the NES feel, but I hope it gives the idea.

See, I used more colors to push it up a few levels. Notice how the highlight changes it's position by a pixel or two based on the position of the button -- by moving where the light reflects, it looks like the angle to the light changes, which also helps the depth a little.

With a bit more time, I'm sure it could be done even better.

Hope this helps. :)

Very stylish, those... they have a great look, remind me a lot of books like "The Stinky Cheese Man and Other Fairly Twisted Tales", etc.

I'm not sure about the color schemes, they burn my brain, especially the red... others seem to like them, though, so I won't stickle too much. Nice work.

I'm on 1400x1050, and the two look the same at 1x. I agree with Helm, though: dithering and color minimization are both valuable skills. Why? If you learn to do more with less, you gain more power. It isn't that you may ever need to use it, but it's that you can if you wanted. It gives your brain more angles to perceive from. It makes you much more versatile of an artist and person even if you never need to draw something with less than 256 colors.

Same reason why all programmers should learn LISP.

On another note, i have to talk to Nemesis about something >_>

It was recently brought to my attention that female wallabies have 3
Vaginas
.
Dare i ask if iron MALE wallabies have 3... >_____________________>
<_<
That's simply not true... I have no idea where you get your information, but wallabies have the same set of gonads as every other mammal (excepting perhaps yourself ;)). They also have pouches though, and that makes them cool.
