Pixel Art / Weird tank

Hello,

I invested some of my spare time in trying to improve my limited skills, so I came up with this: (updated).
Don't ask me what it is, as I don't really know :P - I can only state the obvious and say that it's some sort of funnish robot head moving on tracks.
Oh well, any comment is welcome.

Thank you,
saimo

I suggest The Misadventures of Flink (amiga,genesis)
Panda, I hope you don't mind if I provide a link to more screenshots (a hundred!) from Flink: (F)link.

edit: removed some stuff as Gil's comment below made me suspect I was breaking the guidelines as regards commenting the games. I hope the link above can remain. Apologies - I only meant to provide people with more information for chosing.

It's me again... I forgot Slamtilt, a perfect pinball game which sports great flashy graphics and tons of wonderful dot-matrix animations. The game kind, besides not being very common, has some peculiar requirements, so maybe it could be interesting...

edit: go here to see it in action - I just hope the guy managed to show all the (sub-)missions ;)

Here come my suggestions:

* for ISO RPGs lovers: Darkmere and Cadaver;
* for platforms lovers: Chuck Rock II, Superfrog, Wonder Dog and Ruff'n'Tumble;
* for plaform/adventure lovers: Flashback, Gods and Lionheart;
* for shmups lovers: Disposable Hero and Project-X.

All these games are Amiga production from the 90s, and so had to deal with the technical limitations of the time - most notably, restricted number of colours (some of them even use dual-playfield, so that they have only an 8-colour background plus a 7-colours foreground) and little memory space.

edit: sorry if any of the games listed has already been CC'ed in the past: I'm relatively new to Pixelation...

Pixel Art / Re: Forester Mockup 37 x 2 - b \ 240 = square + game.

thanks for the comments, here's an update.. perhaps the colors are a bit better?
Colors are OK, although I personally liked pkmays' 3rd palette better.
About the tree: it's upper part looks like it's made from a sort of ring of leaves with a big hole inside of it! - leaves are beautiful, BTW.
About the guy: the head is perhaps a tad too small... I mean, even for a commando. Maybe just 1 pixel larger and it will look less odd, while retaining the emphasis on the muscly body.
Looks fine overall :)

getting back to the black frame...

in order for it to work... you need to sort the timings out better on those first 2 frames. The whole loop (apart from the blank frame) is played at 40 fps... the "flash bang" segment of the sequence (ie.e the black to white shape) needs to literally play so quick you almost miss it...
Fully agreed.
In fact, your modified version look a lot better :y:

Quote
i've reduced the timings on those frames to 20fps and then the remainder plays at 40 fps...
mmm... I guess what you actually had in mind was 60 fps... right?

Pixel Art / Re: Autumn Tree! [WIP]

I like the browns, but maybe you could add some other greenish and grayish hue. Moreover, it looks a bit too overloaded with leaves, for being an autumn tree ;)
Finally, the texture of the trunk looks a bit too confused... it must be a consequence of the tree being so small - maybe you could try to simplify it a bit.

General Discussion / Re: How did you find out about Pixelation?
« on: November 26, 2006, 11:03:38 pm »
Ouch... I found this place just a couple of months ago and I already can't remember how I landed here :crazy:
Anyway, I was searching the web for pixelling-oriented websites as I needed collaborators for my game (sadly, it turned out that there are very few places for pixellers... but at least Pixelation is a nice one :)), so most likely I was taken to Pixelation by Google or some link in other art-related sites...

junkboy, I just love your entry :y:
The surrounding setting adds a lot to it (gorgeous water and sky, BTW).
