Pixel Art / Re: Serpent
« on: November 07, 2006, 05:25:13 pm »
I agree with equinoxx. The pose the serpent is in looks like it would break it's spine. Unless this thing is tiny and super fast, a creature that big would need to make more of a smooth sweeping turn.

Also, the color ramps are dull. Plain old blue with plain old purple. Throw some more variance in the shades and highlights to add interest. If this thing is underwater, the highlights could turn a greenish aqua from light shining down thru the water's surface.

Anyway, one more thing about Paint...

Which is why the average Joe's opinion should mean about [] that much to a pixel artist. It's like showing up at a Harley Davidson convention and trying to show off your Kawasaki Ninja.

Ah okay Helm. I'll look it up. But I have fond memories just drooling over big bulky textures in Tenchu and Metal Gear Solid.

Okay, I've officially had too much fun in Wings today. The madness stops here.

[edit]

Found the thread here.

Wow, I'm in love. Helm, you're completely insane. Absolutely apeshit insane.

"Suck on some torps you Coalition skum!"

Low poly modeling has a certain charm to it similar to pixel art. Now all this bad boy needs is a big old low resolution texture. : ]

miascugh, that's sexy.

Mirre, very clean rendering.

Thanks Helm, but it won't be happening any time soon. Pure unadulterated pain-in-the-ass pixel technique there.

Forgot to include to original lines. Thanks go to Tremulant.

Consoles started out in 2D, now they're all 3D. Handhelds started out in 2D, now they're moving to 3D. What's left? PDAs? Maybe watches in the future. Ah well, anyone who doesn't get into pixel art thinking it isn't a niche market these days is in for an upleasant surprise. That's not to say everyone should abandon developing pixel skills, but realistically anyone who wants some long term job assurance is going to need to have solid 3D skills.
