Actually it looks like the stray spots of dithering are a .gif saving artifact.  Are you using MSPaint or something by any chance, xdjkittiex? (is there a better way to say that?)

Anyway, I just wanted to demonstrate something here without altering the palette much.  Your shading seems a bit like you're trying to shade from the outlines and provide a little definition, but I don't think you're really considering the volumes!  So I did a rough paintover here just to show what I mean.  Having a light source should mean some areas are generally darker than others, not all within the same few values, if that makes sense.

Here's the walls from Dungeon Master if you think they would work better as a test:

I'm sure we understand the idea of needing a naked template character for layering items on and we understand the chibi thing, the reasons to draw a bigger than natural head is straightforward enough, but what's confusing is why the detailed musculature on a character which already demands to be symbolic; we're not literally suggesting a world of people with huge heads (unless the game is Hydrocephalic World: Online) so why be so literal rendering the body?

Plus drawing muscles shows everyone how much you own at drawing.
I think that's probably the gist of it.  Sometimes we pixel artists just don't know when to stop :P

I agree with Helm about the 4th one there, Atnas, it's quite nice.

My attempt, for this thread:

But he's neither muscly nor babyish enough I think.

I wonder how many pixel artists have an "rpg doll" as their first real attempt at pixel art?  I think that was the case for me.

Ehh? Noone interested?

Also, Lackeys picture cant be right. the proportions seem off to me. Id need a correct picture to work from.

Heck I'm interested.  I've still got my half-done wallset lying around that I need to finish.

In such a program, could you be able to define tilesets manually?  I would want it to be able to work with different view sizes and tile layouts, maybe.  A little walk-around preview would be nice too.

Also, could you elaborate on how the proportions seem off?  If you have further information it would be really helpful.
