Pixel Art / Re: [WIP] Character Sprites and platformer tiles

Trying out a new style, I felt the small size was holding me back in terms of game play; the head was just so big that it made some actions animations look unreasonable, such as holding objects above the players head. I also feel there's more room to fit personality into the character animations with a larger sized sprite.

Working on some art that may or may not end up in the game, really just wanted to get a better idea for what the main character looks like in my head down in pixels.

critique is appreciated on this one

Also a little dust animation.

Backdash animation I just finished. Hopefully it's clear what's going on with it.

A few little animations I've made between other projects.

This guy would be the save point guy in my game.

His dialogue would be something about being able to tell everything about a person just by tasting them, so that's why he eats you.

Sword attack [WIP]

Dead Old Man

My intention for the sword attack is for it to be slow, I don't want it to be the main attack someone uses, but more of like a really powerful single hit that could be used to finish off harder enemies or sneak in a powerful strike on bosses that are moving around.

As for the old man, you're gonna accidentally kill him at the beginning of the grave, and then he's gonna follow you and help you connect to the spirit world. Your dead father also helps you from the spirit world but I haven't come up with a design for him I like yet.

Lovely character style, although the tilework needs that much love too. Don't neglect them.

I did play with the sprites though. It was mostly style refining, more recognizable clusters like the old man's beard and brows, buff man's chest and nose, main character's hair rendition, and highlight tweakings on him and her, among others:

Thank you for that edit! The old man's beard looks much nicer, and I like what you've done with the nose as well. Also the highlights on the hair of the other characters looks really nice too. I do need to work  on adding highlights like that. So thank you.
Very nice style! Do you have a way to follow your progress? Facebook? Twitter?

Thanks! I will be posting my progress here when I have WiFi access.

I hardly post anything anywhere though.

Working on a game, and I finally settled on an artstyle for the character sprites. Pretty much only I have seen them so I want to see what other people think of them, before I go further.

Most of the animations are a little stiff on purpose, because I want you to be able to attack while doing anything, so I can just replace the top half with the punching animation during running/jumping etc.

     Idle          Run         Jump
(it's going to be a ranged attack with like fist hadoukens or something)
 Attack Idle  Attack

Charge Attack

Antagonist Ide

Transform [Incomplete]

Foreground Tiles [Incomplete]

Background Tiles

Sort of Mockup

I don't really like the tiles, and that's mostly what I'm posting here for, I've never really done tiles before.

But really any suggestions are welcome for anything I post here.

Edit: Forgot to mention, a lot of the colors I've used on the animations are taken from a piece by 1up over at pixeljoint, which was my original inspiration for the style of art.
Link to the piece the colors are from: http://pixeljoint.com/pixelart/84512.htm

Edit: New stuff
