Pixel Art / Re: Help a new guy out

If you want to learn how to make good colours, I recommend watching this video  it explains a good basic way to get consistent good colours. if you want to get better than this, just  experiment with shifting certain values.

Thanks! I will definitely check this one out.

It's a little unclear what you want? Do you need help or guidance using palettes? Or do you just want general help?

I wouldn't say you don't know what you're doing. That art is pretty clear. Unless that's not a monitor with some text on a desk.

Eh... My problem was with the color borders and such. I get really lost when it comes to colors (or pixel art for that matter :P).

The urge for me to learn how to draw pixel art has risen.

I don't really know what I should do. I don't often use palettes; I usually just increment by some number like 10. Don't ask what I increment (it is probably the lightness/darkness).

Please point me to the right direction, as, clearly, I do not know what I'm doing.

Even if we can see 10 million colors, the brain still simplifies that and doesn't keep track of every single color you see unless you're intentionally comparing them.
What matters more is the relationship between colors rather than the amount.

Not to mention it's much easier to work with less colors, you get so much clearer shapes, easier for the brain to digest.

Also, by adding an excessive amount of noise, you're just removing the shape and making it harder to read.

Actually i believe i did a paint over using a brush in gimp, but i wanted to get a dark style, since they have to have dust/oil on them, and i wasnt really aware of dithering, even if i an now, i see that it would be hard to implement with this style in mind :(

We can see somewhere around tens of millions of colors, why limit to 4bit, 8 bit?
This is the corner stone of the pixel medium, actually. We are free from color constraint most of the time, but we decide to limit the number of colours for artistical and practical reasons:
 - it allows us to focus on clusters and create readable details;
 - it allows us to animate things;
 - it allows us to bring homogeneity to a piece.

I think you will find many of the "treasure chest" threads feature art with limited palettes.

Thanks for the clarification! :)

Unpaid Work / [HOBBY] Looking for a pixel artist that lives in the EU.
« on: August 29, 2015, 08:13:43 am »
I am looking for a pixel artist who can create seamless textures, or 2D sprites.
The game is going to be similar to Doom/ElderScrollsArena/Fallout.

Currently we are a team of 2; A Coder (me), and a Musician ("Mike").

I'll post a tumblr page if anyone is interested.
http://purificiency.tumblr.com/ (About 2 days of work, maybe about 8 hours)

Skype : scaryeye27;

I also stream it, but I don't want to advertise irrelevant things
