Pixel Art / [C+C] 4-legged and 2-legged run and jump animations
« on: May 27, 2015, 09:22:33 pm »
I created these for a game project we're doing in our spare time. I'd love to get some pointers on lighting and the shape of the legs (especially on the 2-legged one) and how to improve on them because I feel those are the areas that could use the most work. Also the cape of the sheep in the 4-legged one feels a bit off so any pointers on that would also be greatly appreciated. And any other comments/suggestions you have ofcourse ;)

I started fleshing out the skeleton running animation, because I was pretty happy with it. However, I'm not that happy with how this is turning out so far. Seeing as how his upper legs are only 3 pixels and his lower legs only 2 I'm having some trouble with accurately placing them and how to shape the curves. Anyone willing to share some insights on the topic?

Being a novice at this all, could you add some context to your arrows and boxes? :P

Here's a second version by the way :)

Did some work on a first jumping animation. I also agree with the comments that the arms in the running animation need some work, which is something I'll be looking into next.

It looks like the smoke is a string being swung.  Try making discreet puffs that go up.

Adjusted the smoke.

Even though I'm French, I've never seen anybody like that here :p To much stereotypical, maybe ? The beret and the hair are to close in colour and contrast, make his hair brighter maybe? And in French we use spaces between letters and double punctuation. You should write "C'est la vie !" :p Good idea animating a skeleton first, a lot of people try to animate the sprite itself, and ends up just moving parts around. Keep up!

I guess that's the problem with stereotypes, they're hardly ever true. I've yet to see anyone walk on wooden shoes in my country :P I adjusted his hair color to make it a bit lighter. Here's the newer version of the idle animation:

He actually has a beret on. True, a striped shirt might have been more stereotypical, but the vest and scarf give him a bit more style ;)

One of my first dabbles in pixel art, which I would love to receive some feedback on :)

Disclaimer: No stereotypical French people were hurt in the making of this piece...

Pixel Art / [WIP] Game scene
« on: May 12, 2015, 09:12:35 pm »
I've been working on a piece of art for a game concept we're creating and would love to hear some comments. Especially regarding the background and what to do with it, without distracting too much from the current foreground. The game is a 2d sidescrolling game, so also the brown foreground piece needs some filling in with some details. I'd love to hear from you guys.
