Hey man you have some really nice looking tiles there especially the cave ones   ;D don't knock yourself, just keep on at it like kazuya says the friends is much simpler and a little more flat and then imo the edges of the cliff way too contrasty. it takes a little time working on art within a team and helps to set guidelines and rule such as only using so many colours (outline colours that will be prevalent in the game, and how many different ones used on one tile set) or contrast to a certain range. Like i said keep at it syncing up takes time  :)

Love the colours! got a very similar colour pallet I have just been working with <3

ok so I would lower your mountains in the background as it obscures the silhouette of the bridge and ruins the composition a little it will also give a greater feeling of height. I'd also give the bridge a bit more information if you can, its very flat along the top and supporting struts maybe adding a bit more too it could break it up a little. Also the character is meant to be the main focus however is not on the rule of thirds and the sweeping vine only distracts the viewers eye.

did a super quick paintover, sorry the foreground elements still need work imo.

Hope it helps

So I tried to do my own version of Harveys run ( Thanks again! ). Its much better than before...i think, however I'm still not 100% happy with it but I'm going to call it a first pass, start on a few new animations then go over them all again.

NEW anim OLD anim

I also did some more tiles today too, tried to make them less noisy and more along the lines of what i had before. I'm going to wait until the tiles are in the game before I lighten the outlines, but I will play around with them once its in there.

Also did another mock up with the background from the old game in there. A few more days and I think that I will have it looking ok.

and the way i got the lighting like that is 3 layers of yellow/orange, Layer 1 an overlay , Layer 2 vivid light, Layer 3 low opacity soft brush over the top then 1 layer of pink with colour dodge over the top. :)

Hey I got the basics in game, just thought I'd show you guys :)

I also have been generally annoyed of boobs being the center of animations for female characters, which is why I chose to give her a black shirt. It leave it as ambiguous as possible.

I like that! I agree with harveydentmustdie, I think the arms could be a little longer when straightened as they look a little stubby atm. I also thing that giving some highlights on the arms would help her fit into the environment. Keep it coming :D

Well I for one think its great! Brimming with character, nice shapes good colour set. Looks kinda like those fish with a light attached to their head. My only small crit would be the top teeth could maybe be a tad more beige and have another one on the right side as it looks like he only has 4 teeth. but if it was against a dark background I guess you could see it. anyways big props man !

Loving the style of all these little guys and everything you are doing here! Reminds me of my cannon fodder days  ;D The police car and all the little guys have so much character too em, they're great! Will try to give some critical feedback but it looks like you've had quite a lot for the helicopter and I think its looking pretty good.

Thanks everyone especially Harvey :O that's such a big improvement! I was thinking the same thing about his chest strap but didn't want to introduce too many colours into the image. Been working on my tile sets today still a work in progress but thought I'd post my days work. I also made a little mock up to see what more I could want from the set and got a little carried away and tried to make my old set up

Hey guys, first of all thanks everyone for replying.

Vagrant yes I am sure, this is going to be a lot easier in the long run. and right now I just need to make something. and my sprite making will get better so I'm not worried about that :)

Thanks Ptoing the edit was AWESOME! sorry about the jpegs  :-[ won't happen again. See you on the hangout soon hopefully.

Ok so I tried animating him today, I'd like to hear your thoughts. I did 6 frames what do you guys normally default too ? I also did as you said Decroded and started rough then painted on top of the rough with the details. I was wondering do you guys ever do the arm or legs separate and build it up in layers was thinking trying doing it that way next time. as his arms seem a little off to me.

Run with weapons (quick mock up)

Please lemme know what you think :D
