Pixel Art / Re: Fast Moving Effect

I'd love to share!  But I can't due to my contract.  I'm sure you understand.

The background couldn't be obscured because the client had several transitions that had to occur in the background while all this speedy flying was occurring. I ended up creating some large, thin, slightly teardrop shaped streaks that shot by.  Worked pretty well when paired with the small clouds flying by in the foreground.

Also, I added a roaring wind sound effect.  I've always thought that animation is 50% audio.  Fireballs are bigger when you use a "WHOOSH"!
Once the animation is released, I'll share it with you guys though.

If you're using photoshop, you can make an animated gif, png sequence, or simply test the frame animation directly in the software.

Hi everyone!  I'm working on an animation that has the sprite moving at a high speed, straight up, in the sky.  I'm using a nice parallax scrolling effect with the clouds in the background, but I want to really drive home at how quickly the character is ascending.  The small clouds zooming past helps, but I'm thinking I'd like to add streak particles.  I'm not sure about the most convincing way of doing this.  My first few attempts feel like rain rather than streaks.

(http://youtu.be/I8zv4ebqobY?t=1m53s something like what you're seeing at the 1:53 mark)
I'm trying to get an effect kind of like this, but without obscuring the background.

Do any of you guys have suggestions on ways you've overcome this sort of challenge before?

First, let me ask, what's your sketching process? Do you use a digital medium for comps or a physical one?  I'm very impressed with the expressiveness of the characters, especially the wyvern.  It brings back fond memories of the Kid Icarus manual when I was a kid.

Rock'n idea Ymedron.   I been up for over 48 hours working on a project, but as soon as I'm conscious again, I'll give it a stab.   :D

I appreciate the input, cels.  I'm new to the group and wasn't aware posting older works was an exercise in futility that may annoy the community.  I value your guys' expertise and thoughts, sorry for the social faux pas.

I understand what you're saying, but with new experience or not, I think this set can stand on its own.  I was just interested in what the community thought could be done better or different.

Hi everyone!  This is pretty much my first post here.  I just wanted to share some work I did way back in 2008 for a game called Cor Aureus that was never completed due to the loss of most of the assets in a mechanical HDD failure.  (I still have the harddrive, but the recovery companies quoted me at 10-20k to get the data back).  There used to be more baddies, but these were the only ones I could salvage.

Most of the monsters have three forms that you would encounter in various stages of the game.  The gameplay was a mix between the NES Final Fantasy games, and Dragon Warrior.  The animated battle sequences was similar to what you'd see in the Fire Emblem games on GBA.

I'd love to hear your thoughts on the style.  Keep in mind, my pixelart skills have evolved immensely since 2008. ;D Six years on the internet is like 60 years irl. ;)
If anyone wants to use them for a project, feel free, just give me some credit.

Hi Matt.  I'm quite interested in your project.  I sent you an email with some samples of my work.
Please let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks!
