Gil: agreed, the original animation was bad

I'm a fairly skilled pixeller, but also a bit of a clown... This was only a little experiment to keep me entertained for some nights, sorry if i've offended anybody in any way

Being here was nice, for as long as it lasted

Thanks, Conceit... That actually makes a lot more sense as opposed to the other posts just saying 'it's wrong' and nothing else... that's exactly why i asked people to look at the animation and not the individual frames

I'll have a good look again at the animation tomorrow

Thanks again

Quick edit to address some of the more obvious errors:

old:

new:

Since the headbounce was bothering me the most i shortened the legs in some frames so the head could come down, thus reducing the bounciness... This has also reduced the limp a little bit, but i kinda like the limp because this animation is supposed to be run a little bit faster and it's supposed to look like a quick power-run, so i don't mind a little spasm in there

I don't want to change the global length of the legs, nor do i want to change the size of the head... they're all part of what makes KoF look like KoF

I can see why it might look mirrorred, i'll fix that as soon as i put some clothes on her, not now

Finally, the issue with the hair not looking fluid... i've seen a lot of animations with fluid sine-like hair and it always looks wrong to me... big chunks of hair are a lot heavier than cloth and they're pulled down by gravity a lot more... maybe somebody else would like to comment on this? (I do agree that the big black area is too static at the moment)

After my discontinued animated avatar i wanted to try something more ambitious, so here you go:

Doesn't look too smooth, but i've restricted myself to 6 frames for this one

Reference taken from, and heavily influenced by, the 'King of fighter' series for neo-geo

I don't want CC on each frame, as it's still a WIP and i know some bits look weird, i only want comments about the general animation and what i might do to improve

Not particularily, sorry. I'm not going to cry over Gil editing it or anything, just was kinda odd when I asked there not to be any of that. People post a lot of stuff in the OT that is not looking for crits or edits, generally there's some showcasing as far as I can tell. And I don't mind critique about anything, even stuff I consider 'finished'. Just not edits on this one.

I'm not sure if you understood what i was asking for... you went on about the editing and whatnot, which was not what i was asking

The text in your picture is greek, but it's so messed up it's hard to tell what it says... if it's a personal thing then i will back off and apologise for even asking

Care to explain what the greek text says/means, Helm?

Latest version, with an improved animation:

(Wait for it, it blinks... eventually... wait for it... now!)

Took one colour out and put another one back in for smoother shading, added wrinkels around the eyes and mouth, fixed first bend after the loop on the ribbon, etc.

Don't want to go overboard on the animation, as i think avatars should not move too much since they can destract from the actual posts

I also don't want to drag on a thread with 'i added a pixel here and there', so this is it... i'm reasonably happy with it... on to a more elaborate animation next, i think

Thanks for all your help, appreciated

Thanks Sharm and Gil, your initial comments were a lot more useful to me at this point than all the big ugly colourwheels

Latest version... took most of your advice into consideration again (eyes closer together, highlight on ribbon, nose, smaller ribbons at turning points etc.):

Also tried to get a bit more complementairy colourpalette going (purple vs. orange)... Not sure if that was a wise decision

The right eye (ours) should probably be moved up a pixel or 2 when closed... looks weird now

Yep, I agree... plus it's a really harsh vertical line

I also think the shadows are way to dark and take away from the overall shape of the picture, which i'm surprised nobody has mentioned yet

I got home a little late today because of some next-gen pixelshader stuff that cropped up when we put a new character in our game, so i didn't have a lot of time to do anything constructive when i got home... Thankfully there's a long easter weekend coming up :)
