Pixel Art / Re: Small rock platform
« on: October 18, 2010, 05:35:33 am »
I see someone already replied while I was trying my hand at this. I'd pretty much say the same thing. Try to change the colour too give it more excitement, as well, lower the amount of colours you use, since you're really using more than you need to.

Here's my attempt.

As you can see, I went for more of a cartoony dirt colour using reds instead of going to from gray -> blue. I also pumped the saturation up quite a bit. Either way, hope you get some good advice from this thread, the actual shape is pretty well done in my opinion.

SUPER EDIT: My advice for colours would be to use higher saturation in general, you can lower the saturation as you go lighter and lighter with colours, as it's less noticable, but for darker colours, when you lower the saturation, it always seems to turn out boring. Also, hue shifting. For example starting with a light yellow -> dark red. This can be applied to other colours as well.

Granted I can't add anything that hasn't already been said, I definitely agree with robotwo. No sense in letting the screen size go to waste if you're going to use the palette. As he shows, you can still keep things readable and big with the gameboy restrictions. I'd say take that into consideration. Can't wait to see some more improved mocks.

Pixel Art / Krammy Needs Critique
« on: October 18, 2010, 01:07:39 am »
Alright, so I'll be posting various pieces in here that I feel need critique.

The first thing up will be this small 24x24 explosion I'm working on for a game.

Frames:

Animated:

Granted I wouldn't call it bad by any means, I feel like it could still use a lot of work. Some of the frames feel pillowed, with the worst being the 2nd last frame (in my opinion). Even though I'm sort of aware of these problems, I'm not really sure how to go about fixing them, as I've tried a few times, only to get the same result.

General Discussion / Re: Read the Rules, then introduce yourself here.

Hello all,

Krammy here to offer critique and get critique. I'm sure I already know a few of you on other forums as well, but this seems to be the go to place for pixel artists to get hardcore advice. Loving the custom emotes here too, I'll try not to use/overuse them.

It's unfortunate but it doesn't seem to be too active here anymore, however I'll try and stick around as much as I can. I'm looking forward to learning quite a bit here, can't wait to meet some more pixel artists.
