Pixel Art / Ice Giant, take two
« on: December 09, 2010, 05:16:36 pm »
In the spirit of me going back and making another attempt at stuff I've done before, here's a new take on the Ice Giant I did.  If any of you looked at the first version, it was a hyper-dithered mess.

Comments / Crits / Suggestions / etc.

PS: There are about a ton of references that were used.  And yes, the stance is supposed to be all weird like that.

Pixel Art / Round 2: Bonzai-ish tree
« on: October 06, 2010, 07:22:47 pm »
You may recall my having done a Bonzai as my first art here.  I revisited that and tried to do a little hue shifting, a more simplified and stylized leaf style, and tried my hand at some anti-aliasing.  I think I'm having some trouble with banding as yet and I didn't really make the roots work, or the shadow.  The background is a bit of an afterthought.

Comments/criticism?

Pixel Art / Bandolero!

As a follow up to my cowboy image, here's his opponent.  My wife tells me this image could be considered offensive, but I don't think it's any more offensive than Speedy Gonzalez.  You don't see him on the air anymore, though...

As a point of note, I used jalonso's palette for his Medici mockup over at Pixeljoint, as the colors are "awesome-able".

I didn't do this one to learn anything, just to goof around a bit.

Pixel Art / Cowboy - Hue Shifting Study
« on: August 10, 2010, 06:01:14 pm »
Now, the idea here was to get used to working in color, since pencil-work and line-art is where I'm stronger-- I spent too much time idolizing the Image Comics revolution in the 90's.

That being said, please excuse errors in anatomy (even a cartoon needs to have some basis in anatomy, I think) and so forth.  I am most interested in selecting colors for a palette and the process of selection.  I tried to listen to Argyle's post on my last thread about low saturation shadows shifted to blue and high saturation speculars, tried being the operative word.

I'm pretty happy with the reds in his shirt, but not so much with the pants.

Pixel Art / Munny study
« on: August 04, 2010, 07:15:13 pm »
So I've been seeing comments about hue shifting and whatnot, and didn't find much in the way of a tutorial on the subject, but I've seen some calculus-like formulations for how some people do it.  I'm a bit lost.  I did this little guy this morning for fun:

The color ramps seem a bit rough, and I resorted to some dithering in spots, but for a couple of hours of work, I'm happy.

EDIT:  Man, I should have looked at those edges.  Back to work!

Sorry, I started this before the tree posts all happened.

This is originally drawn from a tree found here.

Pixel Art / [C + C] Ice Giant from Skeleton Lords
« on: May 27, 2010, 05:24:00 pm »
Hello, I've been lurking the boards for about a month now and decided to post something I did.  It's taken from concept art found here (Look under giants).  I did it with the 16 color option in GraphicsGale, so it's a bit palette-limited; but I wanted to start small.

Here's hoping I get how BBcode works.  Let me know what you think.
