Our game studio DigiTales Interactive (creators of Lacuna) is looking to permanently grow from 4 to 6 people, starting with our next adventure game project early next year. We look forward to your applications!

Working at DigiTales

We do our best to make DigiTales a good place for everyone here. Jobs are varied and creative, and everyone has their own responsibilities. We sometimes play and/or party together, but we respect each other's boundaries. (We're not 'family', your family's your family!) Work hours are flexible. We managed to make our first game crunch-free and release it on time, let's make that a trend. We offer many office amenities including two adorable pugs, a shared floor with some other cool indie devs (but our own office), and home office every Wednesday. Also, Saarbrücken is great! It's a vibrant, young, friendly, and relatively cheap city to live in. If you need to move, we'll help you find a place. We look forward to hearing from you!

No matter which position you are interested in, it's a plus if any of the following applies to you. If you do not check some or even most of the boxes for a position (except for legal requirements) but feel like you are right for the job, please apply regardless! Your skills and personality are more important anyway.

  • Able to speak, read and write English and/or German more or less fluently.

Junior Artist position

What we are looking for:
  • Someone from any background, but preferably an EU citizen for paperwork reasons.
  • Experience in 2D pixel art. Animations are most important, but environments are also interesting.
  • Additional skills that might be helpful: 3D modeling, tech art, VFX.

Job details:
  • Work on-site in Saarbrücken, Germany. No remote option, sorry!
  • Full-time position (40h) starting February 1st, 2022.
  • Core hours from 11-ish to 3-ish.
  • Permanent position, not just project-based.
  • Salary: €2.500 gross (about €1.700 net) for starters, plus all the usual German insurances and jazz.
  • You are one of two artists in a core team of six people.

Hi, everybody! I'm Julian from DigiTales Interactive. We're currently working on Lacuna, a story-driven sci-fi noir adventure.

We're looking for someone to create a few "cutscene sprites" to emphasize important moments and visually break up the game a little in terms of perspective and level of detail. The cutscenes should:
  • be higher in detail (i.e. closer to the action) than the normal gameplay,
  • feature some interesting perspectives,
  • contain a couple frames each,
  • be 320x180px in size.

It's a paid gig that needs to be taken care of between November and January. We require nothing in particular from applicants, just a portfolio that they're up to the task. Payment will be negotiated based on your usual rate. It's a completely remote freelance gig.

Hi, everybody!

We are DigiTales, an independent game studio based in Saarbrücken, Germany. In the few months since our company’s creation, we have developed a demo of our first 2D adventure game called Lacuna and successfully pitched the project to publishers. If all goes as planned, we will start working on the project full-time in January 2020 and double our team size from two to four people by hiring an artist and an additional programmer. The current project is set to run 16 months, but of course we will do everything we can to keep the team together afterwards.

Here's a walkthrough of our current demo:


Basic information
•   Indie dev salary – it ain’t much, but it’s honest work.
•   Local presence preferred, but we are open to remote options.
•   Permanent full-time or part-time position preferred, but freelance also possible.
•   German healthcare, paid leave etc.

Your responsibilities
•   You will work on an adventure game with an existing art style and demo.
•   You are the lead artist – without you, there will be no game.
•   You will create a wide range of assets, most of which will be low-resolution pixel art used in the game itself. This includes static and animated assets (spritesheets), environments, props, and characters.
•   If it is within your skill set, you may also be tasked with the creation of high-res artworks for use in cutscenes, as character portraits, key art or promotional posters.
•   In a tiny team, nobody has just one job. You may be involved in testing as well as discussions surrounding game design, writing, and business or technical decisions. We might also take you along to events such as exhibitions and conferences.

•   You have a portfolio of existing art to show us, including some great pixel art.
•   You are proficient and quick in the creation of high-quality pixel art using a software of your choice.
•   You know and understand the requirements and realities of indie game development.
•   You are able to understand and express yourself in English.
•   You value friendliness and honesty.
•   You love story-driven games.

Nice to have
•   You have previously worked on one or more commercial titles.
•   Your portfolio shows that you can comfortably adapt to different styles, moods, and levels of detail when it comes to creating art and pixel art in particular.
•   You have some experience as a technical artist (e.g. know your way around shaders) or with the implementation of art into an engine such as Unity.
•   You already have the necessary equipment for your workflow at your disposal.
•   You have a formal education in art.
•   You speak and understand German.
•   You like dogs (since there might be one or two in our office).

Hello, everybody!

We're a four-person team working on a dialog-driven, linear "hard" sci-fi adventure. The project is not public yet, but has been in development for over a year now and most systems are pretty much built.

We're currently looking for a freelance artist who is proficient at creating pixel art environments. The workload will be eight hours per week maximum, starting in June or July. There is loads of work to do, so we're looking for someone to join us for at least several months. We pay on an hourly or daily basis.
