Pixel Art / [WIP] My isometric cliffs, pointers please :)
« on: August 24, 2009, 11:12:02 pm »

They're the start of my first attempt at doing an isometric tileset... but I think I need some help already, my cliffs seem to end up looking like bark.  :-[ For some reason looking at it in preview made me realise the colours are too dark as well...

The little red dude is there so I know about how big the units are probably going to be, and the weird lump at the back was my first attempt at a sort of rock pillar. Unfortunately it looks more like something a dog left than a cliff, so at least my current cliffs are better than that.  :P

Any advice?

Pixel Art / We've been inspired! :P
« on: August 08, 2009, 10:32:10 am »
I don't normally upload anything on here, mainly because I rarely do anything but I do like looking at the art from time to time. I saw the hexquisite collab (which is awesome btw) and showed it to some friends and we decided to try our generally non-pixel-arty hands at it.

Obviously it's nowhere near as good as the one on here, but we had fun making it so just wanted to let you all know your idea was appreciated  :P

As I said, none of us really have any experience with pixel art, but at least we gave it a shot   Apart from the guy who did the smiley anyway...

There were 6 of us doing it, so if you are wondering which tiles were done by the same people (I am green):

edit: images don't seem to be showing up... do now.

Oh, and we are planning to do another but we will use a different colour pallete this time, any suggestions?

Pixel Art / [WIP] Purple Spaceship
« on: May 02, 2008, 03:31:30 pm »
My art teacher yesterday was demonstrating some tools in photo shop and I spotted a shape I liked, so quickly jotted it down in paint (that's the black squiggles on the right).
When I got home I had a shot at pixeling it, and I'm reasonably pleased with it.
This is my resulting pixel:

The main problem I am annoyed with is the edges - they look... well... pixely...
So any suggestions on that would be great, but looking for any criticism in general as anything I do is just to improve my skills for the moment.

Thanks  ;D

...love these emoticons.  :P

I'm new here (and to pixel art in general) so... hello!  ;D

...and onto the topic, after taking in a load of tutorials I finally decided to try and pixel art a tile-set, for a simple game I'll be doing myself in game maker, just to try and get a grasp of the basic pixel art techniques and so on... but am already confused, about shorelines...   :-\

My problem is that I can't figure out how waves should interact with my coast at different angles... how can I explain myself better?

...lets says that the waves are coming from the bottom right of the screen.

I get how they should look when they hit a corner tile at the bottom right of a beech, and how they should look on the bottom and the right tile, but what about the other tiles? With beech between them and the waves? Do they even have waves behind them? I have no idea!

I tried to look for videos and images but they didn't really help, and I couldn't find any tutorials on the subject or any useful tile-sets to look at...

Any pointers or links to things for me to look at would be appreciated  :)

Thank you in advance.
