Devlogs & Projects / The Dark Within - Dimension switching platformer
« on: November 10, 2016, 12:25:30 pm »

Hey guys! My newest game The Dark Within, just landed on greenlight! I figured since it's pixelart, i'd post it here too, maybe someone would like it.
Anyway, i'd greatly appreciate if you checked out the Greenlight page. :)

The game is a fairly short story-focused 2d action/puzzle platformer.

You're a man, awaken in a strange place with a terrible stomach wound. You have no clue why and how you got there, and why your stomach is bleeding.
All alone, weak and fragile - you will have to find help, and solve the mystery behind it all.

Pixel Art / [C+C] Need help with game's promo picture
« on: May 05, 2016, 12:33:17 pm »
Hey people!

Im starting my work on a new piece for game's promo picture. It will be used on Steam store page at 2x view probably, so thumbnail visibility is not so important. I just need it to look pretty.
So this is what I got sketched out basically. I still need to refine and refine and refine. Nothing is final here basically, so Im looking for any help I can get.

Finished -

My name is Nauris. Im a 22 year old pixel-artist and game developer from Latvia. I've been pixeling and developing games for 2 years now, and have released a couple games(steam) and participated in countless game jams, and other projects. Im pretty comfortable in all pixel-art styles, and Im a very quick learner if you require something more unique. :)
I work for 20$/hour, although it's negotiable if I really like your project or it's idea, and it would just be a joy for me to work on.
Please do not bother me with revenue share projects.

Here are some samples -

Pixel Art / [OC] [C+C] Hi-res platformer mock-up
« on: February 23, 2016, 09:25:19 am »
So i've been meaning to make a bit more hi-res platformer mock-up in a while, and I finally feel comfortable enough to make something decent looking.
well, to be fair it's not exactly hi-res as the tiles are 32x32px, but basically the character would be 32x64 and so on, pretty hi-res for myself, as im used to doing 16x16 tiles mostly. :)

Anyway, here's where im at now

I still got all the polishing to do, stuff like AA, and cleaning up. And the colours will probably change too, but I'll appreciate any feedback on this piece, as I want it to look good in the end. :)

EDIT: emm, anyway here's a little edit already. I fixed the top rocks, basically, and made the walkable rocks even lighter by adding another colour.

EDIT 2: Well Im awfully productive today, so here's some more progress. I changed the colours and fixed the walkable rocks again, by removing the highlights from all the rest of the tiles to better emphasize the walkable space. made a little mockup out of everything. Now im thinking if I should do the fade to the dark in the middle of the tiles or not, hmm..

Guess Im calling this finished for now, if noone got any more suggestions.

« on: February 15, 2016, 12:19:01 pm »

So i made this little hellboy dude for a quick pixel dailies on twitter. And figured I should use this guy as a learning material for myself by getting crits, instead of trying to figure everything myself always.
Im looking for any kind of crit, from colours, to shapes to techniques, Just want to improve.

Pixel Art / [WIP][C+C] Need help on improving graphics - Bacon Rebellion
« on: October 22, 2015, 09:55:14 am »
Hi guys!

So i've finished my last game, and im making a new one. It's about angry rebellious pigs and a farmer that has to fend off them all basically. :D
It's going to be this really bloody shooter, where massive hordes(hundreds) of pigs come at you and it's just one big, massive blood bath.
This is where I am now with it -

And here are some gifs -

(ingame he's with coloured outlines to help with readability)

Im mostly looking for help on how to improve the character design. I want him to be more interesting and still look like a farmer, but it's really hard to think of anything.
Also, any tips on improving the general look of the game, the tilesets and anything else. All feedback will be appreciated.

Pixel Art / [WIP][C+C] Caveman riding a Pterodactyl
« on: September 11, 2015, 02:45:31 pm »
So I've started to make a promo picture for my upcoming game. In game at one point you get to ride a pterodactyl, so I was thinking this scene could actually make a cool promo picture.
This is how far I've gotten with it now -

However, im not really liking it. First things first, I know I should give the colours more contrast, and stuff like that, I'll work on it, once I figure out how to do the skin texture of the pterodactyl. That's what's bugging me the most at the moment, I can't really think of a good way to do it. Right now it's just a bunch of random crap everywhere. Also im pretty sure the lightning is kinda off.
Anyways, i'd be glad if someone could give me some pointers looking at it with fresh eyes.

Pixel Art / Need opinions on game background. C+C
« on: November 28, 2014, 06:38:27 pm »
Ok, so I've been working on this There was a Caveman game, and im trying to make a nice looking background for my game, with all the skills I got. Now this is how far I've got at the moment. I don't know about the trees though. The trees that are further should be lighter or darker like I have in the gif? I tried both ways, and this one seemed better. Anyways does it look ok, or something's totally bad? I can't tell myself as I've been watching at it for so long.. :/ :D

Here's a gif to see it better how it looks in game.
