[Plunge]

Hello everyone,

I've been working on a game that will port to:

  • android
  • ios
  • mac
  • linux
  • win32
  • windows phone 8

The game was designed with multi resolution in mind to target most mobile devices.

[Game Video]

http://bouncer.htbindustries.org/~pranq/pub/plunge.mp4

I'm currently in search for a PIXEL ARTIST, ILLUSTRATOR to profit share for this project and as you can see in the video I have most of the components out of the way and ready to lay down art and work on game play. Currently the game is using placeholders (megaman mostly) so that I could prototype, however the artist needs to look with a open mind and preferably need little guidance during the project.

Your artwork must be of quality if you are still a beginner to drawing then please save both of us the time and effort. I am also looking for someone who can quickly provide me the assets I need so the game development does not get dragged into months and months of work and waiting.

The person of interest must be approachable, friendly and open-minded. I'm not really looking to bring someone in that is narrow minded and one sided about everything. There's plenty of other people out there that are dying to jump on board a project.

I consider myself easy to work with and have a unhealthy work habit (work to much). With the right person on board we can have this game up and running very quickly.. With the wrong person it could be a slow grueling process. So please I'm only looking for dedicated serious artist!!!

[Game Concept]

You will notice in the video I have cutscene templates. Those will be animated short scene's to give the game a story. I wanted to discuss with the artist before I stuck with the story line, but to give a brief overview of my intentions:

This will be a small casual game.. You start off on top of a structure with a cut scene. For whatever reason either mafia is about to shoot you, OR your just a guy who loves to jump off things, OR your chasing someone , OR <insert reason your jumping off things here> the cutscene plays and you leap off the structure. The cutscene ends and you begin the gameplay. As you are falling you will shoot in the direction relative to the touch event (up, left, right, down). There will be different enemies with patterns and behaviors and you will have a limited amount of health (but can pickup powerups). As you are falling your goal is to reach the bottom of the level (there will be a distance indicator). You will pickup health, shield, gun upgrades, special powerups like a limited time parachute that possibly rips and things of that sort. There will also be structures as you are falling that you will need to dodge so that you are not pushed off the screen.

Each level will have a boss and each boss will have its own pattern that you have to solve in order to defeat them. The background and level design will relate to the boss and the things you see in that level. You may or may not get a player upgrade by defeating a boss.

Once you have traversed the distance for that level you will be prompted to 'tap' a button on the screen that will appear briefly and randomly on the screen. If you do not tap in time you will die a violent death and restart the stage with a quick AD appearing. If you successfully traverse the distance and tap the button then it may or may not be up to your points that you scored throughout the fall to determine if you passed the stage.

There's many of elements we can introduce to the game. I'm open to suggestion and ideas so we can discuss further if you are interested in hopping on board.

To wrap it up each level will have a boss and since each level is tailored to the boss/enemy types it will play like other games you might have seen in that sense e.g. megaman (where you fight a boss per level).

I also thought that maybe once you traversed the distance for that level you fell through the street/ground into the next level seamlessly unless you died in which case you would then see the AD appear.

[Deployment]

Once I have a serious artist on board I will likely build a website and try to get active in some dev blogs/groups to promote the game as it is being developed to get a following so that when the game is released it will have a foot in the door. I also may be interested in doing a Kickstarter for the project depending on the artist quality and work ethics and how far we want to take this game. The game will be released on Humble Bundle, Apple Store and Google Play at the least.

We can discuss the percentage of profit shared, however I will say that if you are a committed artist and do a wonderful job as a partner then not only can we focus our efforts on more games, but I will consider a equal split even though as a programmer I will be spending much more time investing into the project (most likely).

[Conclusion]

One last thing to mention is I have 2 legendary musicians on board. They work at a very fast pace and can do anything from background music, sfx, voice over/skits, dialogue.

And before I wrap this up a little about me:

I've been programming for 20+ years. Game development for about 5-6 years. I have other games that I have worked on and have no problems guiding a project from start to finish. I work at home so I have lots of time to devote to a project. I'm fluent in an array of programming languages, however this project is being developed using C++/Cocos2D-x. I'm easy going I enjoy playing guitar and riding motorcycles in my free time (when there is free time :P) I use tools that are available to get the job done and occasionally I compose for VGM. My latest hobby is drawing and I purchased a Intous tablet, but greatness does not come over night so for now I'm looking elsewhere for art assets instead of drawing my own. I'm decent at pixel art and illustrations, but do not consider myself skilled enough to really be serious and use those assets in my games :D

Thanks in advance.. I hope this answers most questions but if you have more feel free to comment back or email me:

Pixel Art / Looking for critque and suggestions on some game assets
« on: April 03, 2014, 10:06:55 pm »
Notice: I feel it's important to put this here this time. I posted the other day and right off the bat I believe my intentions were misunderstood. So please read this so I can explain my intentions. I'm posting a screenshot of a game I AM creating. Everything in the game was made by myself or my friend the musician. There is no ripped art everything was done by hand and last time I think it was thought that I wanted to rip art out of this game, but understand this is a game I MADE and it was intended to be a 'thank you' to the musician who created the music in the game (which is for another game that has nothing to do with this one).. I originally intended to make a chipdisk for him and let him do his own album covers and just have fun with it but there is a mini-game within the chipdisk that has turned into almost a full fledge game.

So what I am looking for is just suggestion, critque, friendly assistance. I am not looking for people to hop on board, but if you would like to try your hand and help out then thank you very much thats what im hoping for!.. I'm not demanding anyone do anything or complete this project for me. I have made a lot of progress on my own although my art quality is no where near some of the pro's on here! So with that in mind if you want to offer a friendly suggestion or make a edit then please do so thank you for your time!

P.S. - I have posted in this section because this is not a collaboration request and I'm mainly just asking for a gracious tip or two on the assets I have already added for the game. I'm no where near the level of expertise as you guys at pixel art and thus why im here to improve on that. I've always had a passion for the beauty that is anything retro and pixel art is one of those things on that list :) Thank you.

If you would like to check out the work of the guy who I created this game as a 'thank you' for his name is JREDD and you can listen to his amazing legendary chip music here:

Game: Pocket Nova

There are 10 audio tracks so I made 10 levels.. Each level has a boss.

Boss 1:
Description: Eyeball it leaks slimey eye stuff that the player has to dodge and bounces all around the screen

Boss 2:
Description: Dragonfly does a left to right occasionally diving toward the player (Did not add graphic because it was photoshop edited and would not qualify as pixel art. I will likely redraw it)
?

Boss 3:
Description: Ship introduces a multiple weapon system and has 3 50cal looking weapons at its disposal. Moves slow

Boss 4:
Description: Alien ship that spins and has not been decided on its method of attack

Boss 5:
Description: Goat skull has not been decided its method of attack

Boss 6:
Description: Frog it will jump around the screen and likely spit its tongue out at you. Really need help animating the jump sequence but i'm just throwing that out there I dont expect anyone to if they don't feel like helping out.

Boss 7:
Description: ?

Boss 8:
Description: ?

Boss 9:
Description: ?

Boss 10:
Description: ?

Walls:
Each stage/level has a wall on the left and right of the screen that moves as you progress through the stage.. Here is one wall I have done but not had the chance to revisit and tweak. If anyone wants to touch it up i'll post so they know what dimensions it has. (Again just throwing it out there! It's okay if you don't want to). I was hoping to end up creating a set of walls for each level that matches the song name so it feels there is an environment.. Here is the song list and the wall image:

         "Exploding City",
         "Oil Spill Island",
         "Volcanic Rush",
         "Grunge Mines",
         "Ice Crystal Caverns",
         "Robot Metropolis",
         "Zone Out Loop",
         "Incoming Enemy",
         "Foreboding Fortress",
         "Unleash The Beast",
         "XyberPulze Ending Theme"

For example the Ice Crystal Caverns walls will likely be grey/blue with crystals sticking out of the dirt.. Simple enough :)

Additional:

There's a lot of assets I'm not putting out there. Not for any particular reason I just don't want to flood everyone and my main reason of this post was just to get critique on the bosses and walls.. Here is a few enemy sprites also and I'll call it a wrap after that :)

enemy 1:

enemy 2:

enemy 3:

Wrap up:

I would like to finish this initial post by saying if anyone does give me any suggestions or even if they don't and want to play the game when its complete just shoot a email to kenny.gre@gmail.com saying something to let me know that you would like to and here soon when I wrap the game up i'll shoot over a copy to you.

This is not to make money.. This is not to showcase my skills as a game developer.. This was just a fun project that turned into a little more than what we expected. I guess you could say this is just a hobby project to say thank you to that friend. Hopefully he can use this to post his music and get a little traffic to his music because he is indeed a great friend (who reminds me of howard stern lmao) and a greeeatt musician!

Unpaid Work / Need artist for platformer
« on: February 08, 2014, 11:29:55 pm »
I'm going to keep this short, but I have already coded some of the metrics e.g. level, camera, player, controls, audio, etc but nothing that really sets the game play or game concept in stone yet. I do however have a idea to base the game off of as far as story goes, but am open to suggestions and can completely scrap that story line it's not a big deal.

My goal is to locate a artist in which I can communicate with who doesn't get moody, takes suggestions and rejection professionally and has a stellar strong mindset to keep focus on the ultimate goal which is completing the game. I've worked with some other people and they were either moody, quit in the middle of the project, wasn't open for any suggestions, didn't communicate very well or a few other things so I have a pretty good idea on what I don't want.

Of course like many other people I enjoy metroidvania type games. I would like to put some time in this project so I'm not really going to focus on monetizing or setting any deadlines. I feel when you do that you cause the project to loose the fun factor and it becomes more of a job than something we do for enjoyment. So with that being said I'll likely work on it for a few days then break a couple days so on and so forth. With that being said I'm pretty understanding on how everyday life effects productivity but that doesn't mean disappear for a week or longer and then come back unless you can tell me before hand that your needing to go somewhere or whatever the purpose..

I've also learned another lesson from collaborating in the past. I will be the 51% so that if we cannot reach an agreement someone has the authority to make that final decision and that will have to happen without a bitter taste in the mouth of whoever wants to collaborate.

Okay sorry I had to get all that out of the way. I feel its very important to find the person who suites and can work on the same level. If your interested then reply or email me kenny.gre@gmail.com and we'll talk further. Please send me some examples of your work and make sure its work that you can produce the same quality again not something you got lucky with a few years ago and it turned out good and you haven't been able to reproduce that same level of quality since but you send me it thinking it will help get you on board. (I've had that happen)

I'm easy to get along with. Friendly and understanding. I have a good eye and plenty of experience in programming and game development to see the project through. I've managed projects before so the whole thing is not new to me and I already know what game engine/libraries I'll be using for the programming.

If you do your part i'll do mine and I can promise I will not quit the project until its done. Even though I will not leave it unfinished if either person leaves the collaboration they donate everything they have done to the project and whoever is still working on it. (hopefully this does not happen I am really looking for someone who has some self discipline)

Thank you for your time!

Unpaid Work / Hobby Metroidvania NES/Retro
« on: December 05, 2013, 06:39:54 am »
This is a hobby project I am undertaking just out of passion and love for the NES system and Metroidvania style platformers.

I am welcoming one or more pixel artist who would like to contribute to the project and has a passion for this type of development. I have no plans in monetizing this unless the opportunity opens down the road. This will be a long term project and is not going to be something that is done likely even within the year so if you are interested please note that you must be able to motivate yourself through passion and love for what your doing alone and that you are able to accept the fact that there is no scheduled time limit on when to call it complete.

I do not wish to compare this to any other game because at this point nothing is planned. I prefer to let the artist visually design the game using their own dreams and idea's not mine. I would prefer we are on the same page about what the end result should be like.

I've worked with people before who simply give up or are doing this sort of thing for the wrong reason and loose interest.. I'm not looking for that person.. I'm not looking for anyone who is moody (sometimes is understandable) or I only talk to once a month.. I would prefer to communicate and become friends talking at least a couple times a week just to stay in touch and stay on track.

This is not a project you need to stress out about because what we do is totally upon us to decide. If your worried about money then this is probably not the project for you because even if there was any it would be a long way down the road.

I'm looking for that artist/artists who always wanted to create their own game and again has a deep passion for pixel art, 8bit/chip music, NES system and anything to do with a retro console makes them smile.

I hate to list any games that I personally enjoy because I do not want to get any idea's stuck in the artist head of what this game should look like... however if you insist I can share my favorites.

I have chosen to develop in AS3 code using the AIR run time and focusing initially on a windows desktop version of the game. I'm efficient in other programming languages and have been programming for 2 decades now, however I do have some game development experience and I believe to soften up the load of creating the game it would be best to first write it using this method.

I'm also a chipartist so I can whip us up some rocking authentic sounding 8bit/chip music to go with the game.. and plan to do a full OST.

The only thing I'm lacking is the pixel art.. I've attempted to learn before, but I've come to understand that when you create something that you want to create .. after its created if you are the sole creator or even if you are a creator of anything to do with it.. then the fun factor is drastically reduced just from the amount of work you put into it and already knowing the experience without being able to experience it from start to finish.. so this is another reason why I'm seeing if anyone else wants to jump on board..

I'll leave it to that.. if you have any more questions feel free to respond or email.. I'll check out anyone's work, but I'm looking for someone who is good to professional skill level.

Thanks for your time..
