Pixel Art / F1 Cars
« on: April 03, 2006, 08:57:58 pm »

I'm currently wishing to program an unofficial F1 fan game - I'm nuts about the sport. So I'm having a go at pixelling the cars. Crits would really be helpful here, as I want to get it right on these cars before I pixel the rest. Reference pictures of an overhead view are pretty hard to find at the moment seeing as it's a new season - so any pointers on where to find overhead views of the 2006 teams would be extremely helpful. I know AA is hideously wrong in places - and some points look jaggy as hell - I need help fixing those bits up. I think I need to use selout seeing as its for a game. Although I really need to read up on how to do it before I attempt it.

Comments and crits are appreciated. Also, for F1 fans on this board, can you guess the four cars I've pixelled so far - the ability to recognise them straightaway is a factor in the game - and I hope I've got the look across.

Just for some additional pluggage - I'm working on my new site at http://houseofninzha.co.uk. Full of pixel stylings, only the first four pages are up - i.e. Home, About, Blog, Games. You can view the current games I've been working on as well as past projects. Comments can be posted on the site. Many thanks everybody!

Pixel Art / It's a Pagoda!
« on: February 19, 2006, 10:22:25 pm »

This is supposed to be for my new site. However, I feel the colours are too muddy at the moment - and possibly look a little bland. What do you think? I also thing the 'tubing' or whatever it is on the pagoda roofs may not look right where it is supposed to curve off at the end. It should be a stackable design, i.e. I've just done one floor and stacked it on top of each other. Also, maybe some shades are unnecessary and increased contrast perhaps? C&C is appreciated, as well as some tips on colour choice! (Boy I suck at that!)

I also forgot to mention, I've just flipped one side over to make a complete pagoda. Tsk, I'm too lazy sometimes!  ;D

Pixel Art / Pixels to share (Image Heavy)
« on: January 04, 2006, 12:15:02 am »
It's just a standard hello/introduction post :)

I've naturally been a programmer, but I do like to dabble in pixels. Trouble is, I've never thought I was any good at it, until recently when my buddy Captain Blood started to teach me the way of the pixel. I've now started to get a basic grasp of pushing the little buggers around into places where they look good. I'm still a beginner compared to many of the people here, and I'd like to learn and become better at this art, so I can pixel more in my own games.

Any good pointers on choosing colours anybody? I still can't get to grips with choosing the right looking colours. So far, I've just been working with Captain Blood's palettes, which have a nice richness to them. However, when I go colour hunting - I always end up with some pretty grey looking colours. :(

My first 'real' pixel piece:

Ships were conjured up from random scribbles, and lovingly crafted into the beasts you see before you. You may have noticed I'm a lazy bastard, and just simply flipped the halves over for all the ships. I still think they look good however, and am pretty pleased with it all. However crits are always welcome!

Just a quick show of my gaming side:

A tetris clone I'm currently programming and done the graphics for:

And a Gradius clone, with background graphics done by moi, and the rest from PyroPirhana and Captain Blood, as well as another buddy, Pug Fugly:

If those images aren't supposed to be there, I apologise :P

Happy New Year everybody!
