General Discussion / Interview of Mandrill
« on: February 13, 2018, 06:26:59 pm »
Hey guys,

I have just interviewed Mandrill, Moderator of PixelJoint. He is amazing guy, who loves movies and beer and so many amazing stories to share!

Here's an Excerpt from it:
Quote
I've never really tried to get better per se, but rather focused on understanding and getting a feeling for colour, lighting, texture, aa, form etc. in order to make working on a piece easier and not as time consuming. Lots of studies, especially Paul Bonner's work. (as mentioned above). I basically tried to simplify my workflow which is not that complicated at all. ;)
All I want is to look at a piece I did and get a warm cozy feeling in my gut. :)
I don't use any traditional media at all, but used to scribble with brush pens a lot.

Pixel Art / Clash of Gods
« on: November 09, 2017, 12:32:13 pm »
Hey guys,

I am developing this new game Clash of Gods and I am stuck and frustrated with Backgrounds.

First is conceptualizing them which I think I am taking too far and mostly unable to think of anything.

Second is to actually make them look like backgrounds.

These are two Backgrounds I have made. I am not sure which one would look better or if any at all. This is supposed to be world of Goddess of Soul - She collects souls and is a wizard.

Help me out Please!

General Discussion / Your Favorite Artists and Why
« on: February 22, 2017, 12:04:55 am »
Title says it all. I am just curious to know everyone's favourite artist an know why they like them. I might grow fond of them myself and learn from them.

I am still unsure of whom I like but I certainly find the works of William-Adolphe-Bourguereau

Proudhon

General Discussion / Programmers, where do you find them?
« on: October 10, 2015, 01:06:43 pm »
As the title says, where do you guys(Pixel Artists) find programmers to collaborate with to make your own games? What do you keep in mind while collaborating and do you guys come into contracts with each other?

Thanks much.

General Discussion / iOS Related
« on: September 06, 2015, 07:20:25 am »
Hello everyone!

So I am making graphics for iOS game and I am rather confused about the resolutions. The resolutions of iPhones(4s,5s,6 and 6+) are ridiculously high for me to be able to make anything that size... I am sure it can be problem for anybody. So I wanted to know how to tackle this problem... what sized graphics should so that they look the same(good) in all iPhones. I saw Iphone Mockups by Slym and the size of mockups were - 512x176.

The character size and platform sizes I am currently making are 64x64 currently. What size the backgrounds, foregrounds, GUI etc should be?

Help me out please!

Pixel Art / Backgrounds
« on: April 19, 2015, 07:10:23 pm »
Okay so I am making some backgrounds for a client. And due to being an unskilled pixel artist or artist in general I decided to put whatever I have done so far, here so that I can improve the piece and as an artist in general.

Here's what I have got so far:

The current palette wasn't really decided of. I just picked some random colors.

Help me give rock textures, forms, improving the composition, colours, light etc along with explanation so that I can understand it even more.
 Thank you!

Pixel Art / Menu Screen
« on: June 04, 2014, 10:13:20 am »
Alright guys so I need little help with the background for Menu Screen for a game I am working on.

Here is the idea:

And here's what I have got so far:

Struggling with clouds at the moment as I am not sure how to make them.

The mountain and castle are at the left because the menu will come as an overlay and in the middle so to keep the focus on it is in the left.  Anyways, right now I am struggling with clouds as I am not sure how to make them. Also the style has to be kept cartoony to match the style of other sprites and work I have done - sorry can't show other work as I do not have the permission to show them yet..

The mountains are blue as I haven't changed the palette yet but I'll make them brown so that castle stands out.
