Pixel Art / Shading buildings HELP?

I just need some help shading this sucker 'ere. Normally, I'd just slap a light source above it and add dark shades at the bottom. It looks okay, but when everything in the damn level looks like that, it gets annoying. I've tried just adding age and wear to it, but with disastrous results. Can you guys help me out here?

I know the building looks flat/like a cardboard cutout/etc. I just need hepl on the shading is all.

I'm trying to work with as little shades as possible.

Pixel Art / Floating asteroid with buildings on top - Crits please!

Yo. Designing a level for a game I'm working on. It takes place on an asteroid and well... it has buildings on top.

Anyway, it's the buildings I need crits on. Something about them just sticks out. I'm trying to use as few shades on them as I can 'cause they'll be behind the player. I think I might have actually added too much detail. What do you guys think?

I used to rely on outlines when drawing sprites, but my chum has been nagging me to ditch the outlines for some time, so I'm giving it a try.
